hey guys I'm reletily new to mountainbiking i ride an 04 norco sasquatch and i am considering riding in the novice class at the king of ballarat i plan to go up to narina this weekend for a ride and some practice but i was just wondering weather doing this race would be a good idea or wwether i shood wait for a bit befor i have a race also how do you think my sasquatch would take dh btw im 15
get out there and race, you'll love it. The novice class is there for people like yourself to go and have fun and enjoy the experience.
Your bike will handle the course fine, just don't go front wheel casing the bombholes and she'll be right.
Have fun and good luck.

oops double post
all race tracks have B-lines around the harder things and if not they should be roll-able. If this isn't the case the track is opening its self up for a lawsuit.
I haven't had the chance to ride Ballarat but from what I've heard it's fast with some big jumps and drops on it, all of these have B-lines.
Costs are usually around 30-50 bucks plus a 10 dollar day license (for insurance). A race will usually involve three main steps: registration, practice, race runs.
Racing will go over an entire day and by the end of it you will be shagged, poor and happy (especially if there's beer like the YY rounds :P )
All your runs at most tracks are shuttled (ie you all load into a truck, bikes on a trailer and you are driven up). ON some tracks that are either short or easy to walk shuttles are not provided so entry is usually a fair load cheaper. Four cross round are not shuttled (in general) as the track is under a minute long. Entry for these races is also cheap when compared to DH events.
Have fun and don't be discouraged if you find the track hard or people over-take you. It's your first time and it doesn't matter where you place as long as you have fun and learn something from the day.

i gave some racing advice here http://pedalbite.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=302&start=15
so it should help to read the thread there. pretty basic, but its all relevant.
the main thing to remember is this: "youre there to ride, not to win"
winning happens because you ride, not the other way round.
if you set out to win, you will lose, because all the effort is going into thinking you will win, and not on whats important. riding the track, finding the lines and focusing on the obstacles.
just go and have fun, and dont come a cropper.
goodluck

Ballarat is a sweet first race to do. We have plenty of huge lines to challenge the hardcore bunch, but we Ballarat track builders pride ourselves in making sure that that the novice lines are just as much fun. Also, you'll find that alot of the nerrina race tracks have more than two lines, so that you can progress form the easy lines to the hard lines with a couple of stages in between.
Final thought: GET THERE!
I'll see you there (will be riding profile hardtail with boxxers).
