This is the thread for posting stuff in in relation to the proposed DJ Day at Red Hills on Australia Day. i'm willing to help out with some of the organisation and if someone can bring a generator, i can probably bring some nice speakers.
let the discussion begin.

Yep, More of them.
It will get more riders up to the jumps ans build. Which also means more jump to have comps on! :P (no thinking right.to early..)

Like I said I will be throwing in Cash and prizes for the winners. There are a few sponsors keen to do this.

Sweet idea, but the issue of insurance arises. If someone breaks there back, which isn't all that unlikely, the people who own the land would most likely sue through the arsehole, then get the placed flattened. Keep it underground and you'll be sweet, very discreet. So get music going, but if any of the locals rock up complaining, just say "....yeh, the guys don't like riding without music and get cranky if they don't have it, and nothing sus/organized/sponsored is going down here."
Obviously not that sus, but something along those lines. And to those who say its still dodgey, i do agree, but that is one way of doing it.

I'm confident that I'll take out best stack position on the podium.
I'm confident that I'll take out best stack position on the podium.
boxing day, i would have won a fucken 1,000,000$ :P
i don't know if this is such a great idea....all we need is for someone to injure themselves during this competition and Bang our jumps will be removed....i think its best to keep Red Hill as low key as possible..

In theory it's a good way to see what skills people display under a competition (And hopefully grab the highlights on film), however I believe it should be organised thru PM's & word of mouth etc, and not broadcast as an open competition. If I was organising this event, I would spend as much time at the jump park as possiblie and talk to riders there, and let word of mouth bring the riders on the day. The next 3 w/ends could be ride / build days get some of the new lines sorted, and then the comp goes ahead if enough interest is shown during the lead up to Aust. Day.
Guys, I hope you understand the dangers of having an organised competition, publicly announced, with cash prizes... if you have the land owners permission and insurance sorted, then go for it, but if it's an "underground" thing, then it's best to keep it that way, through ways Shintaro mentioned.
should follow underground raves lead you dont find out about the location till the day :P but its a bit late for that
Daneel

i'd prefer to keep it underground as well, so unless the sponsors are happy to not have banners and crap (well, some stickers would go down alright i guess) and just generally keep it super-discreet, we just won't be able to have them sponsor us..
i prefer the word of mouth thing as well, but this thread has started and people know.
i think i speak for all when i say that this is enough advertisement for the day. if you want to pass it on through word of mouth then that is fine, but PLEASE don't go yelling it to everyone at the local skatepark or whatever.
road warrior, how do the sponsors want to do things? if they want advertising, tell them it's off, simple as that.
i want to keep this to the same level as boxing day, just with some awards. people who were there will know how good that would be.
I'll organise the thing, for the main part, unless anyone has any objections of course..
soo....
1) Can anyone bring a generator? I'll provide speakers unless someone has something better than 2x 8" woofers or I can't bring mine (uhh, parents might say no  ). I'll bring a cd player too, so bring your CDs along (sorry, no mp3 CDs)
2) Any suggestions on prizes?
3) road warrior: sort out the sponsors
4) Can anyone bring a BBQ type thing? (and be willing to cook?)
5) Any suggestions as to food for the BBQ? Can anyone hook us up with some snags?
6) That's about it! If anyone can think of something else, speak up!
one final note: if anyone did get hurt on the day, i'm pretty sure that people wouldn't try and sue anyone. i can whip up some forms for no-liability if people think it will come to that point, but come on..
a) let nitwit organise it.

basically, i want boxing day with some music (and prizes possibly :P)
olly1oo6
31-12-2004, 11:46 AM
KISS but it sounds like a good idea. prizes dont have to be anything over the top, hence we dont need sponsors, everyone could contribute $1 or somethin on the day and it can go from there.
this event could be kept almost as simple as boxing day, but we have to be careful about the amount of ppl there, i dont think insurance should be a problem we have to worry about and if it can be sorted properly we could have ourselves a really good dirt jam!
[EDIT] dont worry bout a generator, too complicated, bbq can be same as boxing day, BYO drinks and comp can be judged by 3 experienced ppl who can then give out the prizes based on a certian criteria.

An over the top organised DJ comp will be a nightmare considering we don't have the permission of the land owners. We can make it similar to Boxing Day but just a bit more exciting (small prizes, more food, tables, judges and some music blaring) a generator is a bit over the top i think.
I am very happy to organise this but i think we need to just keep it as an get together of riders rather than an "Legitimate Comp".
I will just sit back on this thread and read the responses to it. The next three weeks i will be up there trying to finish of some of the new lines as well as building some benches and such. I will need help so get up there and give a hand, i have heaps of timber to build. I am planning on building a platform about 5ft off the ground for filming and for us locals to chill on.
Insurance is not a problem unless we make a big thing out of it. People have axed themselves there already, which has not caused any dramas, but as soon as we try to say "This is a Comp", it could mean the end of one of Sydney's best jump spots.
Keep the ideas coming and i will talk to the local crew in person during the next few weeks.

i was thinking like boxing day with no official anything but just a little more organised in order to acheive winners etc, what i was thinking was something like boston bike battle on a certain set of jumps. 2 riders go at it for 5 mins, best voted moves on to another round. just have it low key with all the locals and what not draw up a elimination table then we can just mess around for the next few hours working through the feild, riders who arent on the judging set of jumps can then go play around on all the rest aswell, it also saves a huge line for riders to plus its dam easy to judge to riders at a time rather than 40 over one day. does anyone understand what im getting at? just an idea to give it a bit of structure.
i really dont think we need a panel of judges or sponsers...if we keep it like Boxing Day and just let everyone decide who won that would be good.
BTW nitwit organise it...Boxing day was good! Anything half as good as boxing day would be awesome :D

That's what I'd be going with.
Which jumps would you use? Obviously, the rhythms are a little out of most peoples league. Maybe you could give the riders the choice of the middle line plus the two big jumps on the right hand side. Maybe a few jumps could be built/modified for the day etc. Maybe start on the smaller ones and progess up scale as riders get eliminated. Not really sure what I'd suggest but something to think about.

If you read between the lines this is basically a dirt jam without the bullshit of organising. Winners can still be identified and appropriate prizes awarded.
Everyone is basically saying back off on trying to make it like a massive comp; If it goes ahead as an underground jam, with minimum organisation, but still enough to make a good day out of it, then another comp could be held at a later date with a bit more organisation.
The best way to organise it is with the locals, just speak to NitWit or Inverted, and the rest will fall into place.
As for riders, , keep it simple and lets jam!!

I think more of a jam rather than a full on competition would be good. I don't want to be riding for 5 minutes and have to watch for the rest of the day. Or be confined to just the smaller jumps.
Maybe people just ride when they want and the group/crowd decides who was riding the best on the day? And how about the "winner" walks away with plenty of respect from their peers 8) ...............

basically just a jam, the best rider will be obvious on the day, and if everyone put in say $2 or even $1, we could just give that to them and hey, a bit of cash isn't too bad as a prize.

There is no need for sarcasm.
I know the jumps are in desperate need of maintenance from the Christmas holidays and if you guys want to have any sort of fun we need to do some work.

It is simple as... everyone has to stop over analysing it all and just go for it!!
Forget about advertising the fact there will be prizes!! But... Oh hang on... you did wicked on that last jump and it was better than everyone I saw today... go over to Road Warriors car (which happens to have some brand logos hanging off the side of it) and he might have something for you, mainly to show his appreciation for the wicked footage he caught as you were jumping!! Problem solved (if you understand what I'm getting at)!!!
And in relation to everything else... bring yourself some food, some drinks, ect etc... And whoever has an old stereo and a bunch of DD Batteries, music!!!

All right, lets get some of the finer logistical points sorted out then.
1) music: I think we need something with a bit more oomf than we had on Boxing day. Has anyone got something a little larger other than a ghetto blaster? I'll happily pitch in for the batteries, or are we going to consider a generator?
2) set/clean up: we need some people to go up a couple of days before, or earlier on in the morning of the 26th to make sure everything is up and ready to rock.
3) we could probably do with a bigger BBQ plate than we had last time.
4) Possibly a small first aid kit (basic shit: sun block, sling, dressing and maybe alcahol and betadine. (I should be able to cover that). I'm sure it's a little unessecary, but if things turn to shit and you have to explain yourself, at least you can say that you'd done that much.....
5) Garbage bags and means of removal. Cleaning up is all well and good, but somebody has to take it and dispose of it.
All basic shit, but the more organised we are the sweeter it'll be. I should be able to help with stuff like garbage removal as long as they don't cancel my liscence before then :x
Anything else that needs to be worked out?
Notice that I stayed right away from the whole prize thing.......I know I won't win one, so I don't care :P

Nah, I think the music will be fine. Everythng was ok on boxing day, I know that the two CD's I got to play went to the last song. Just be aware that there will be everything from rap to thrash etc. It's all good!
We just need some one to say "Aye", I'd love to, but I don't have a big stereo! I have BIG speakers and an amp to poer them, but you'll definately need a generator and a way of getting them there! Just a good sized portable radio thingy will do I guess.
Gotta have choons.

PREPARATION
If everyone helps over the w/end with track work, more fun will be had on the day. Alot of small things can be done to make big differences to the Jump Park
FOOD & DRINK
As for BBQ, I can bring the same hot plate as last time, but it's not exactly big; It can cook about 25 sausages at a time max; Cooking the meat will be easy, and people can bring cold food & snacks too; Most important thing is plenty of water, so make sure you bring lots with you on the day; The same esky as last time will be sweet (hole in ground lined with plastic and filled up with bags of ice)

As far as preparation goes, this w/end is the last chance to work on the lines; Over the last week alot of positive changes have happened; Thanks to everyone who has helped.
BYO food & drink. There will be some method to cook meat on the day & that evening too, plus a huge esky filled with ice. It would be great if someone could bring a webber BBQ just in case of fire restrictions on the day, or if we get a generator then an electric hotplate could be hired......? As for rubbish disposal, as always there will be garbage bags there for people to use. If I catch any nobs dropping any rubbish on the ground I personally will abuse them; I am sick of picking up rubbish for selfish wankers;
As for the dirt jam, keep it simple, and it should be sweet......

Aussie Day Dirt Jam 05' will offer variety of style & skill to all riders on the day. I imagine there will be some preliminary heats followed by "bike battles" for final standings.
The vibe of the day will be what we make it set aside a party atmospher and plenty of jumps. I expect people to be "amped" throughout the day, and will no doubt see new tricks, plus the regular thrills or spills.
Alot of work has been done since the Boxing day party. Red Hill DJ's have seen numerous improvements, including re-enforced lips on several jumps, the startings of a dual 4X track, and other significant improvements.
If Australia Day's washed out with heavy rain, feel free to help build, check this thread for more details on the day.

Take some good pictures and video for me, as I have been forced to spend Australia Day, drinking on a mate's yacht - hahaha, it's a hard life.
Seriously I want to see some good pic's and videos.
How bad does the weather need to be for this to be canceled ?? Im pumped for it and couldnt care less about weather unless its raining really bad.
About a week ago i was up there with some mates...the weather looked absolutely Shit house...and was pissing down with rain. within 30 mins it was clear blue sky and a perfect day when the ground had dried up!
To answer ur question there is not much shelter there, i light drizzle would be fine but heavy rain :S

It will still be on if there is a little rain, im bringing a huge tarp which i will be setting up, if it does get cancelled we will do a BBQ on Sat or Sun. There will definity be some locals there working if it is raining, the short mountain cross course will be done by the weekend if thats the case which means there could be some carnage racing going down.

soooo, what's happening with the generator/music situation shintaro?
Just need to finalise everything ASAP. Generator Hire is available on Aussie Day for 24hrs at a price of $72. I'd prefer a high quality portable system, and will inquire at a few music stores about hiring. Worst case is my own portable which is not too bad (or someone elses), yet being a music freak my ears have high expectations I'll probably go with the generator idea, unless the weather is shite. So bring along you're favorite CD's or load up you're Ipod's or MP3 machine's;
Daneel
24-01-2005, 04:50 PM
just a note that the CD player won't be able to play MP3 cds (ie, don't burn a disk in data format with mp3 files on it). you'll have to make it in audio format (ie, limited to 80mins [cda format])
this is assuming we're hiring the generator. if there's no generator, then you'll have to ask who ever is bringing their music machine..
we'll also have an adapter there so you can connect your ipod or whatever (normal headphone jack (3.5mm) or 5mm jack is ok)
also, are there any special requests for adapters? i have a fair amount of audio gear and cabling..

If it does rain, whats the backup plan? Will the ride be postponed to another day?
I think even if it doesnt rain, its going to be pretty wet up there. :(

Maybe, if this is true, and if they are still dozing tommorrow weshould all still turn up anyway. So the council gets an idea of howmany people actually use the jumps. Also give them an idea of thenumber of new jump spots that will be cropping up all over theplace......But they would probably finish dozing them in one day thoughhuh :(

Im confused is it true???
I can see a deluge of crap posts occuring regardless of the outcome... I'll say this, if it's a false alarm, I'll consider temp banning the guilty parties... and if anyone continues to make posts like MrSexy's above, with very poor use of language, they'll be deleted and further action may be taken.
Red Hill threads give me as many headaches as castlecove threads do, so consider this a warning, unnecessary crap won't be tolerated.

What post in what thread?
And yes, I saw that people were about to get emotional, and potentially overreact.. so one "high horse" post that stopped a deluge of crap posts was definately worth it. Sorry for being a bit harsh, as a joke it could've been funny, but I didn't want the potential shitfight to slew accross the forums, hence my stance.

I'm never taking BIG speakers, amp, generator to Red Hill ever again - worst idea ever (too much effort!!); It did allow for some solid music and some night dual 4X carnage under flood lights, but the generator was underpowered and kept shutting down!! As far as riding, building & socialising goes I know I enjoyed every minute. Hope to see a big turn out on the w/end to help finish off the 4X track. I have never seen so many riders or camera's at the jumps as I did yesterday. The competion did not happen, it was simply a dirt jam for jollies (fun). I expect there will be plenty of high quality footage & still pics posted over the next month or 2, can't wait (or is that what....lol)

Hmm, now you might understand why I posted the hoax about RH being demolished. I enjoyed the day but I hate the way you little babies shit on the place.
Props to nitwit & co for making this day possible, but I tell you I really hate my local haunt being treated so badly.
Maybe if all the people who came up on Wed and enjoyed the day could come back again and do some time on the shovel? I saw Carlo the freak building a new line and the guy has been in the country for about a week. Hmm
