hey i am currently weathering if it is best to run your forks soft of stiff for big drops. i have 100mm travel. i do drops around the 14foot mark and still am wondering because i dont have much travel i dont no. people say soft but some of my mates run it hard?

well you want your forks to bottom out off any fairly big drop. and the toilet drop was only 9 ft! have a look at the quick lesson in height thread. would you me or even josh be hucking off a drop equivalent to a 2 story house? :?
I think the goal is progression... not too soft, but defniately want it to move through its travel initially, then ramp up towards the end of the stroke to prevent any harshness/bottoming that could do funny things to you as your body absorbs the landing.
As Rik said you want progression, so the fork uses basically all of its travel. This is possible with the more expensive forks, but i'm guessing you forks don't have these options(100mm for hucking?;) ) You don't want to be bottoming out your forks very often. Personally i believe your forks should be stiff enough to only bottom on very large hits. This should keep the insides and outside of the fork happy for a while.
Nice, you did the toilet drop with 100mm travel :P
I did it with 125 :D
I want a smoother landing so thats why im looking at new forks

i suuggest u play around with ur forks and find out what works better. try running them soft then hard while doing the same drop and see what works best

yer i have found a sweet setting for them but i would rather go more travel so i am not bottoming out that much also i own a ht so it makes it more harsh landing.

100 mm??? unless u got about 6-10 inches of travel in the back then id stop taking 14 footers.........with a 100 mm travel fork that thing will be annihilated soon ...thats just my opinion
