So, who's going to the big day out, what are the acts your going to see and what alcohol (or other things) will you be consuming?
I'll kick it off.
Beastie Boys
System of a Down
SlipKnot
Hill side hoods
Regurgitator
+ others.....
I am planning on drinking copious amounts of Jack Daniels and passing out like every other year :-)

Hatebreed and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion are the 2 I most want to see. I'll make an effort to see Slipknot, just so I can see mosh noobs hurt themselves. I won't be going in that one tho. Prolly check out most of the Aussie & NZ hiphop outfits too. Won't be going near the boiler room, or the beastie boys .
Won't be drinking either. Every time I do drink at the BDO, I get a thumping headache at about 4 in the arvo. Must be getting old!

A SAFETY WARNING FROM SYDNEY BIG DAY OUT ORGANISERS
24-1-05
Big Day Out organisers would like to advise all ticket holders for this Wednesday’s sold out Sydney event (Sydney Showground, Olympic Park), that NSW Police officers will be patrolling the show entrance and Olympic Park Station to ensure that no illegal substances are brought into the event.
Our understanding is that the NSW Police service will be utilising sniffer dogs.
Big Day Out would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by this on the day.
Thanks and we’ll see you there,
Big Day Out Organisers
I'll be there, trying to see as much music as possible.
The pub up the road from me is having an "unofficial big day out afterparty" and running a shuttle bus from Hombush back there, as well as $2.50 Schooners until 1am, so that makes getting home an easy affair, but it promises to make the night pretty messy too.

I think the police in this instance are trying to do the right thing by people through their advanced warning as they are in a position where they HAVE to uphold the law. Imagine the sensationalism that the media would construe if a patron was seriously ill/died and the police didn't turn up at all. By warning punters in advance they have shown that they are not there to ruin people's day so respect for them for doing so.

For those who are interested, this is my review of the Big Day Out on the Gold Coast. And yes, it is all just my opinion, that's what a review is (isn't it?)
While I went with a rough plan as to who I wanted to see, it ended up more of a "what do I feel like right now" plan, with a couple of must-sees being The Music and Powderfinger.
So, straight to it.
First briefly, the lowlights:
#1 The Hives
Can someone PLEEEAAASSE shut this guy up?
Their music was fine, but if you'd only stop telling us how much we like you and play more music, we might ACTUALLY like you...
#2 Actually, that's all, there's no number 2, crowds were big, couldn't get anywhere near Hilltop Hoods, toilet queues were long, but this was all expected.
I saw virtually no aggro, despite the crowds, the stupidly hot day and the vast quantities of alcohol consumed (but I also didn't go anywhere near the mosh pits, particularly for Slipknot or System of a Down). Good work guys and gals!
And now the good stuff, my highlights:
#1 The Music.
I love the stuff these guys do. I know absolutely stuff-all about the band members and that's just fine with me - I'll keep it just about the music. And the music was awesome, an absolute wall of sound that was just overwhelming and engulfing, leaving you right in the heart of the song. They had me dancing with abandon and oblivious to the rest of the world - apart from the kind fellas next to me who let me share a toke. A highlight of their show was when all 4 band members belted out one of their newer tunes on drums, followed closely by the crowd reaction when they started playing The People. Wailing rock, go see em!
#2 Powderfinger
A great show from them, as expected, with their regular big hits belted out by the whole band and a bit of solo acoustic stuff from Bernard. The light show and video screens gave a much flasher presentation than I've seen at the previous BDO's I've been to (1994 and 1999). However, while I enjoyed it, I found I almost knew the music too well, it was a bit like mental wallpaper and was nothing particularly new.
#3 The Polyphonic Spree
I had planned to see The Beastie's at this point, but by the end of the day I found I just was not really that into it, so I thought I'd check out these "Spree" characters. And they were an absolute surprise packet... a bunch of almost 20 hippies on stage in coloured kaftans singing about sunshine and happiness, what are they doing here? That's so uncool. (or maybe it's totally cool now and I'm old enough that I don't have a clue) BUT... they were having so much fun it was infectious, and that was obviously part of their intent. They sang all of about 6 songs in their 1 hour set, as they expanded and stretched the songs and included the crowd. To me, it was what music should be all about - people having fun, laughing, dancing and sharing it with the world. To anyone who's going to the later BDO's, indulge your inner hippie and go see these guys, it might not make the world a better place, but you'll sure feel better about it!!
Anyway, I say pats on the back all around to those who attended and those who ran the show. I had a great day.
Cheers
Tim

I'm with Wattsy. Any chance of this thread turning into a farkin exclusive scalping venue? Not that I support scalpers or anything...

Me too. Hope it rains
Bah, I played it smart... 3rd day they were on sale made the purchase. But I've been struck with a bastard throat infection, and if I feel as sick tomorrow as I have done the past 2 days, I might have to forego my attendance. I hope it doesn't come down to that, and will try my best to be there, but I can imagine 12hrs of festival silliness will knock me around, and if it rains, it'll be even worse :(

Nothing wrong with rain at big day out, keeps you cool :)
Listening to the Stokes and Thursday last year with a massive storm going on above made it soo awesome.
It's gonna be a sweet day tomorrow (even though I've gott get up early to meet some people at eastwood at 9.00am  I don't really know why...)

Beer & Live Music does wonders for throat infections, the yelling & screaming allows germs to escape, while the beer provides lubrication, making it easier for germs to leave via your mouth while you are yelling & screming at your favourite band.
It's all there in b+w!!!
Baahahaha, actually, it was live music and beer and bourbon and tequila and kebab that worsened the throat... damn smokey venues too. But, a night of B grade power metal made the pain worthwhile (saw Pegazus on Saturday).
Now all I can do is consume as much garlic and spicy food as possible... give my immune system a kick up the arse and hopefully get better for the gig. Although, spicy food today + portaloos tomorrow is a very scary premise.
