I need help everyone, i am wanting to get alot done this weekend, including: a platform near the main pack, fixing lips, build a small pack with multiple lines (half the size of the big ones), benches, a table etc...
I will bring up a few bags of cement, nails (i have heaps of wood up there already) and a hardcore work ethic. We need more shovels, so if every group of people bring up one or two that would be great.
C'mon lads lets make this a good weekend for building, if we have a few crews working it will be worth it in the end. I'm honestly sick of getting up there and having only the regulars building. If everyone chips in as well we can get a barrow.
For all the people that come up often, Pull your head out (no pun intended) and lets make Red Hill even better, you'll be stoked you did the hard yards in the end, i have.

I'll try and make it up there on one of the days, depending on work. What times are you going to be there?
i can bring a large shovel and possibly a wheelbarrow along as well..

I'll be there both days all day from 9ish till 6ish, if you bring a barrow up that would be sweet.
Your help is appreciated.

Just a pointer for you. I heard on the weather report they are predicting 40+ degrees for the weekend so take a serious amount of water & sunscreen.

ok, good news, i can definately bring the barrow. It's kind of small and not very strong (hey, my bike's gotta fit in the car too..) so no-one gets to ride in it, but it'll do for shifting dirt.
i'll be there on saturday from around 8:30/8:45 until around 4-ish and i might be able to make it on sunday, but i live around 40 mins drive away so parents may not want to get me there both days.

definetly, that lip is crumbling baad, and the first double after that wont last long either. i think i will want to build a berm before the step down (next to the ramp) so that you dont have to use the ramp.
either that or a ladder on the ramp cos im to lazy :D
ill be there for a good time and build some stuff...it should be good.
Cya all there

I can't make it on the weekend, but I will be up there tomorrow afternoon. Is there anything that you'd like me to do, specifically that is. Keep in mind, I have no expeience in building lips and techo stuff like that, but I can dig holes, cart around dirt and lift heavy stuff.
Any suggestions?

Sorry mate, didn't see your post untill tonight and I left at 4:30 anyway.
BUT.......... This is what we saw/fixed/worked out:
First pics: What's the go with this? some body has gone to the trouble to build up the transition on the hip in the middle line, and I think built up the other one next to it as well and done a pretty good job of it. What I don't understand is why the dirt you've used comes directly in the runout of the transition? Is this a work in progress or is that it? If you plan on leaving it that way, next time it rains, all the soft sand is going to wash down into there and you'll be running out, into a sand pit??!! Even if you take all the sand out, you're going to be running into a ditch! Either way, I can't see this being a good idea!
But, we have some plans ;)
Second lot of pics is what we (Calin and I) would be good. we'd like to see the right side of the table top smoothed out to hip onto and run out into the middle line, turning the last set of new doubles into another hip off to the left, using the existing transition for that. I think Nitwit and Shintaro built the existing double, so I'll ask their opinion's first.
Pics: 1st is the run in....2nd is the take off.........3rd exactly what Carlin's doing.........4th and this is what he'd be seeing.....5th then he'd run out onto this second set. This is where the existing jump would just have to be turned clockwise a little.....6th what you'd hip off into.
We just reckon that this would be fairly easily done, low labour. You're also using two existing structures to a fuller potential ( ) and it would also give the park another hip line, but this one is also a line that you don't have to hammer into too much, maybe allowing it to be a little "kickier". I think it could be sweet. If all the pics don't fit, I'll chuck up a second post.

We did do a little bit of work. We just pulled back a lot of the soft sand that had gathered around the place. We also tried to fix the last jump on the middle line (pics). Unfortunately, it was so goddamn dry that 2 1/2 litres of water wasn't enough to make it stick. between the dryness of the ground and the heat of the day, I don't know how much will stay up. We wet the carpet and put that over top as well, not too confident though. So I'd suggest you guys take up as much water as you can tomorrow. Don't know how you'd do that, but you're gonna need it!
Once all this new digging is done, if you guys are interested in carpet, I may be able to help. we're about to re-carpet 2 rooms, about 45odd square metres, so that's ALOT of carpet. Closer to the time of it being done, I'll make mention of it again, you guys tell me what sizes you want and I will precut the carpet to size as we pull it up, then all I'll need is someone to come pick it up (from the inner west) and give me a lift up to Red Hill at the same time ;)
So, keep that in mind, if you want to improve the durability of lips, I'll be able to help out within a couple of weeks time.
BTW, I don't want to be a little bitch (but I can't help it), if the weekend is anything like today, you won't see me leaving my room, let alone the house, the heat is killing me, so I doubt I'll help out :(

Cheers for doing a bit of work johnny, the hip at the back is still a work in progress, i am making the landing longer, thats why there is hole there. I am planning on digging a drainage hole there so dont worry, leave it to beaver. I'll sort it out. Rik if you could bring some carpet up that would be unreal.
I am just heading up there now, getting some cement and gonna bring up heaps of water. I am going to be there all day today and tomorrow. Anyone that is planning on heading up bring up as much water as you can.
I will post some pics of the progrss made today.

Johnny there is no definition in your photos and its hard to see whats going on.
Red Hill is a very sandy & dry we are always going to have crumbling jumps if the maitainence is done on a regular basis.
I have noticed an increse of erosion over the Xmas break from the high traffic, so if your riding the jumps and DH trails at Red Hill on a regular basis its your duty to do some digging or maitanance.

yeah I know,it's the best I could do. Basically, hip right off the tabletop, run out into the middle of the park and hip left onto the existing hip tanny at the middle/bottom of the park. I think it would be a sweet little line for those who want to non-highspeed hips. and if you're talking about the ditch photos, it's all good because it's just a work in progress.
Is there a natural water source anywhere near by? I'm thinking if we can gather up 5 or six 20litre buckets, as in the white ones with lids, we could just fill them up and stash them up there for when their needed. I can possibly get a few buckets, is it worth doing?

I'm adding a few thoughts on the changes I saw at the end of the w/end and what I believe to be a priority for future progress.......
Obvious changes:
About 5 of the jumps now have cement take off points, this will hopefully help resist wear & tear (don't ask which ones, turn up and see);
That's about all I saw, but I did'nt ride, just rocked up late Sunday arvo to help. But now that 5 lips are cemented, there is not alot of work left to do in regards for maintenace, half a day will be enough time to fix damage to jumps caused by wear & tear.
A better jump park for all (or atleast those who put in the hours.....):
Water storage!! We need to line one of the pits with plastic so that when it rains we have lots of water stored nearby........
Build sessions!! The more the merrier. General maintenance is easy enough for 1 or 2 people to do from time to time, however to take the jump park to the next level (more jumps, greater variety, catering for different ride styles and / or skill) consistent help wanted;
yeah the jumps there are slowly getting alot smoother...we still need more days like this to work on the jumps after the step down
