I appologise if someone has posted this, or a link to it already. I got these photos from a chain letter being sent around and found them very interesting. Not sure of the authenticity of the photos but the look pretty real to me.

I recognise some of those, a few different types of anglerfish, gulper eel and i could name the others if i got out my book for reference but i am lazy.

(edit) oh der the names are on the thumbnails.

I've seen atleast 3 or 4 of those species in books before, they're not undiscovered, just remote and hard to get to (deep deep ocean species).

Did they all get sucked up from the bottom of the ocean when the tides went out and that? I'm told that the waves went out as far as the eye could see before the tsunami hit.

I've posted all I know, no links were included. Not sure if any of them are new species, but they're weird none the less.

that fish with the big teeth looks like its been dried and ready for sale at some asian grocery store.
i wonder how that fish would swim around with those big teeth and all.. would get a rather sore jaw.

Nah, not really, most of the deep sea angler fish that I know have ever worried about it, they say that getting braces is a real bitch though.

Cool critters... the first pic posted has a rego number ending in -03. Probably Means it was found and recorded a couple of years ago...

Anyone walking around looking at fish after that big wave instead of helping out is a fkn moron. bet half of them would actually be edible too.

Heh, they're kinda stupid looking. But (from another forum) this email has done the rounds before, and it's just been rehashed and sent around again.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. I got that e-mail a year or so ago entitled "Amazing new species found during deep sea dredging" or something like that.

Doesn't make them any less amazing. I think a few of them were supposed to be pretty messed up. That is, they wouldn't actually look like that in their natural habitat because the've expanded on the way up to the surface with the lower water preasure.

That big pink thing for instance...

yes....they definitely look strange.
Although its not too surprising that some new creatures would be found.
The world is large and many areas unexplored.
Hmm it would be funny if those unique creatures were the last of the kind ...

That last one looks like the thing from Alien.

And that, Simo, is why I don't scuba dive.

Its actually dark, deep down in the ocean. Nobody cares about looks 5km under the water. Except for that retarded couple that got married like 1km under the water.

They all look retarded....

I think that the shockwave from the actual earthquake killed many of the deep-sea fish and they floated to shore. Not Sure though. <edit> DIdnt see the date on photo's.

it's not suyprising that we are discovering new deep sea species after such an event (I think a small number of new species have been recorded since the tsunami).
We know more about the surface of the moon than we do about our own oceans of which we have only explored 7%.

i did a little research on this stuff, and it turns out, although they are all real photos, and these are all real creatures, these were not washed up after the tsunami, these photos have been around for a while!
