From my experience, most sony ericssons are more trouble than they're worth....the K700i is probably pretty improved I would hope in terms of software quality and less laggy than older sony ericssons....but I'd just stick to a high end Nokia....great battery life in general, reliable. In terms of battery life though, the sony ericssons are pretty damn good, about the only good thing with my old T310....lasted about 4 hours of talktime before needed to be charged.

Naz,
I have a k700i.
Awesome phone, very quick menu navigation, I'm fine with the T9 speling imput, though Every different brand is a little different. You get used to it pretty quickly. Screen is ace, it's been very sturdy too.
Battery life is not as good as my T610, but I get about 3 days of average battery life, including being left on all night, calls, texting, general use, you know. It runs about 6 days on standby. I don't know how that compares to the published numbers, but Sony has a great reputaion on thier battery technology.

I have had heaps of Ericsson, and Sony Ericsson, phones and never had aproblem with them. In fact they're the only brand of phone that Ihaven't had a problem with. I can't stand Nokia, and every oneI've had has ended up needing to be fixed.
But... that said, I know people who have had exactly the opposite experience.
From what I've seen the K700 is a very cool phone, with far more useful features than the equivalent Nokia model.

I agree with that statement, I've got a t610 and it pisses the hell out of me, a couple of mates also have sony ericssons and have the same problems. Battery life started out good, then after a few months it needed to be charged every couple of days even with barely any use. The connection to the charger is probebly the worst design - you gotta angle it right for it to work and I regularly wake up with the phone still with no battery life, even with it being 'charging' all night. It also freezes up (once for almost 2 weeks) and taking out battery/puting it back in, extensive charging doesn't help.
I dunno if they've fixed the problems for the k700 but I know as soon as my plan finishes I'm not getting another sony ericsson.
is the sms dictionary easy to use
if it's the same/similar to my phone it's pretty fast once you get used to it - real easy to select the word you want and add new words etc...

I agree.... I've got a k500i which is the exact same firmware as the k700i. The dictionary is good man, every annoyance in the old ericsson's dictionaries is gone, shortcuts are good, everything's fast.
One shitty thing though... They've got what I call an "ANTI-UPSKIRT" feature... The camera goes "KA-CHOONK!!!" every time you take a picture and it can't be changed no matter what, so there's no sneaky shots.. damn

I have the s700i, the upgraded version of the k700i (flips out, records vids, 1.3megapixel camera etc.) and I definately recommend this phone. I got it cheaper when I was overseas before christmas and it has definately been worth the money. The battery issue compared to say a nokia is rather irrelevant when you take into consideration how big and the amount of colours the screen provides as well as other features. I get about 5 days if i dont touch the thing which is claimed to be better than a k700i. Yes t610,20 etc. are pieces of crap and they do freeze and have a shitty battery, but sony seemed to have fixed this problem for their newer phones. Also, when you plug your phone in to charge, make sure it is charging before you put it down as it's a bit fiddly and wont charge if not done correctly.
Then don't get one.
exactly, why post about gettin another brand when i specifically posted the phone brand and model.
i had a SE t68i for a while, sonys first phone, the software was slow as hell but was good. so im vouchin for this and by the sounds of things i am most def gettin it.
3 are poo.
ride4fun, how thick are the phones i was also advised to this phone.
nec e606 with long life battery is like 4cm thick no joke.
lg is better around 1.5cm still a brick.
one last thing.
when u connect the phone to ur computer what format does it use for contacts i.e CSV CSF or what cheers.
coz i aint looking forward to typin in 250 contacts :(
