I think Farkin needs to put a forum in here for DVD and Film talk.

Not knowing if this is General or a freeride topic but The Collective is simply
The Best Mountain Bike DVD I've ever seen, just a tad to short, probably to do with the cost involved in 16mm fillm processing.
I'd begg to know the exact where abouts of that single track that went for about 5 miles.

yeah i would agree with you that it is a sick mtb movie
but it isnt the average mtb movie that pumps u up and erges you to ride. It more so jas lets you no what pro freeriders do and a relaxing movie

which is probly the reason why so many people like it

it isnt like anyother mtb movie

Agreed it's the best I have seen,
it's a properly done video, by proper cinematographers, proper film crew, proper editors.. not just some dude who likes MTB's and dabbles in MTB and likes thrashy music.

This is a real movie.

I can't agree more.. it's awesome, thats why I own it, rather than dodgying it.
stuff like this is worth the $40-50 we pay for MTB DVD's.

Kind regards
Juls

I find this movie is the best example to use when explaining to parents and chicks what MTB's all about... And I rate this movie on top of my signiture edition of Ryan Leech's Manifesto DVD... And I must agree, this is a GENUINE MTB movie.

You guys need to get out more. The collective is good, but has nothing on Sprung's, Drift's and some of the new canadian vids

the collective is awesome, good to see some different styles of music than that rock shit, i actually love the music now lol. its good because it was a smaller group of guys relaxing more and having more of a fun holiday than making a movie. it was produced excellently and had a good director unike aaron chase lol. MTB is differnt from sk8ing and BMXing therefor we should be making theses types of movies showing how we really ride not just another group of headbanging rockers stuffing around and been stupid (which can be fun sometimes) but i think we are a more relaxed community.

well thats my opinion H8 it or Luv it.

PS. berrecloth's Pink specialized was the shit.
and super T have fun at yeti hehehhe

not just another group of headbanging rockers stuffing around and been stupidWe aren't :( Damn, I'd better cut my hair then...
You'd be stupid to pirate The Collective, get it on DVD, watch it on a decent TV, the cinematography is beautiful, and well worth the purchase.

That said, I still like more raw videos, ala Evolve and Killing Time, there's nothing wrong with having big budget films, but to me they feel sterile, so having a bit of dirtiness and throwing in a bit more "lifestyle" stuff (such as a bit of shenanigans, or even just monologues and non-riding) gives a more human feel to it.

I didn't think it had any racing in it? Needs to at least showcase some racing to give regular folk a real idea IMHO.

Except it doesn't address DH, XC, 4x, trail riding... which are the integral parts of MTBing.

It's a pretty sweet film, more in the vein of the 'lifestyle' snowboarding flicks that are out there, trying to portray that elusive element of 'soul'. While some of the riding in it is pretty good, I get bored watching freeriders ride singletrack, I'd much rather watch Rennie or Graves give a corner a serious beat-down than watch some freechucker just, like, flow it man, gnarly.

I liked the "behind the scenes" section in the special features as much as the actual film.

Come on Dude! Drift A new Race is just Robbie Mc Naughton pretending he is Alex Rankin and copying Sprungs whole style, sound and editing techniques.

It's only set in Australia with out any Originality. It souldn't be called Drift it should be called Follow the Sheep.

I actually think that a more accurate description would be to say that it shows what freeride is all about. It's a bit tlike the more soulful surf films that show it's not just about the moves you can pull, it's also about things like comraderie, friendship and enjoying the environment (be it a huge hill or a city street).

I absolutely love films like NWD but think that sometimes the rapid pace, MTV-style editing makes them a series of stunt after stunt - can get monotonous. When you listen to the guys who made the Collective talk about it, they wanted to show more flow and show more riding - whether that's hammering down a trail like Romaniuk or linking lines like Hunter.

Great flick

I think the collective is a sik movie as well.I agree that the reason it is short is because of the cost. But the filming they do have in it is superb.I'va had it for like 1 month and have already watched it like 20 times cos every time u watch it u see things that youve missed every othertime u watch it.I love the movie and i highly rekomend it to any looking at purchasing a new mtb dvd.

The collective was pretty good but there was alot of talking and it seemed more like a documentary.

Ummmm, forgive me if I'm wrong, but if The Collective doesn't address trail riding, can you please tell me what the guys in it (particularly those riding awesome singletrack) are doing.

i always skip that singletrack section (doesnt turn me on lol) would be good if they had included a bit of urban freeride

The Collective was a good movie, and agreed its even better to show to people what riding is all about. I also think its a good chilling movie and not one to get you psyched but overall, NWD3 and 4 is better IMO.

seems that nearly everyone likes it. that last section with Wade Simmons is the sickest northsore footage ever produced (ithink) with such a mad track. maybe not the craziest, but so damnwell filmed. those of you who have checked the bonus features to see how they filmed it on the flying foxes and shit will know what i mean...insane

the collective was an awesome DVD because it isnt like any others, The collective is very sceanic and the music isnt just loud rock music like on most MTB DVDs, not saying that its a bad thing to have FumanChu cranked up when watching Robbie Bourden rip it up (NWD3). Another good thing about collective was that it had many un heard of riders in it which is always good to see.
I sure hope they make a 2nd Collective with some Downhill and 4X racing on it, maybe one day it will end up like the New World Disorder movies with 5 versions.

extreme-doublebackdiamon-hardcore-freeride-huck-jibbing... DUH

i have only seen the trailer but it loos freakin awesome. it appears (from te trailer) to be alot like the warren miller skiing films (but with dirt and bikes instead of snow and skis) i reckon he should make a MTB film... mmmmmm mtb.

and as for drift2: most of it is pretty cool but that night 4X? wtf? i found that shit painful to watch. what the shit is with the crappy music? and the friggin MX? aaargh..
