when i tryed to add a photo to a thread in this forum the image manager said the pic size was to big (as in kilobytes) is there some way to bypass this or do you have to compress the picture some how. I tryed to get a photo compressor but that didn't work.

I doubt that there is a way to bypass this, if an image is too big its too big. If the compressor thing didn't work, try saving the image in a different format, such as *jpg*, *png* etc.
Move this to Site problems/suggestions?
open your image in a basic image editor - should come with your O.S
right click on the image and select 'resize' and change the res or file type.
this depends on what software you use, but in 'windows image editor' thats how you do it (well thats how i do it).
Other applications may have different interface, but the function will be very similar.
Hope it helps...

if you have photoshop there are a couple of things to do...
1. resize image: Help>resize Wizard>online.OK.
then say how big you want it, hit continur then finish and voila!
2. save as a lower quality. File>save as>jpg>save>quality 0 and there you have it, a still perfectly good looking pic in lo res. well done, you have just uploaded pics small enough to fit on farkin. *claps*
You can download for free a program called IRFANVIEW which I think is one of the best and easiest to use photo editors about.
For what it's worth I've found that reducing a photo to 700 pixels wide leaves it big enough to see, maintains quality AND, most importantly, really cuts down on the "size" of the pic in bytes.
There is a 200kb limit on each photo here on Farkin. if you're not sure about your photo size, simply rolling the mouse over the pic IN YOUR HARD DRIVE'S FOLDER should bring up the properties for that pic INCLUDING its size in kilobytes.
