freeriding comps?
is there any comps for freeriding (bar red bull) that we can get into?
should we put one together?
should there be a novice section and a expert section
or should we just get pissed and go riding?
comments/ideas?

i think a freeride contest negates the meaning of the word freeride. i don't see the red bull ride or rampage etc.. as freeriding but more as skill contests (or stupidity, or size of balls etc.) however, a contest that gets winners from scores and not times would be a good un.

yeah it would be good to get all the freeriders together but rather than a comp more of a jam session where everyone can push themselves but not worry about the judging at the end of the day. we just need a suitable location for all levels that isn't 4 hours from melbourne....

bowzaa, we have a suitable venue at our Beechworth Mountain Bike Park for a potential freeride session...seriously. there's stuff suitable for advanced riders and not so advanced riders with more stuff continually evolving. if anyone is serious in organising something we have the venue !
cheers, paul

i was thinking:
6 spots of diferent freeride skills
all riders put in 20$
biggest ripper at day end takes the cash and shouts a slab
like i say to the missus
spare me the details just give me the money
Western Sydney MTB club ran a freeride comp last year, and I heard talk of another one being organised for this year.

I agree that the idea of a freeride comp sounds like an oxymoron, but I think there is a benefit not to be overlooked. People pushing themselves to win a comp by going bigger or more technical etc pushes the sport further and further. I think that the Crankworks event at whistler is a great example of this. Basagiotia came out this year and pulled off a huge win by doing big, technical tricks and raised the bar. Now riders will be pushing themselves to reach that level and the sport will continue to evolve. And while we all pat ourselves on the back about how anti-competition we are, I think everyone's a little bit competitive. Therefore it should be judged and there should be a winner.

There has to be some sort of location in AUS that could cater for a freeride comp, like there are thousands of freeride constructions out there, big hits, tricky sections... All someone needs to do is....
Add 1 x Hill
Add 3 x sponsor
Add a $40 fee for riders
Get the kids to build some wicked shit
And the day is a goer....
I would be there in a flash......
