Hi
I am upgrading my current lid and I am stuck between either buying a 661 full bravo carbon or the non carbon troy lee helmet. The 661 full-face is $350 and the non-carbon troy lee is around the $400 mark. I have heard that the troy lee helmets are a better fit and look the goods but the 661 carbon would be lighter, so what do you guys suggest I get?

Try each on, and see what feels better. Its gotta be on your head for a while, so make sure its comfy for YOU.

I wouldn't use a carbon helmet. I have heard of things like sticks puncturing through the side of them. My mate has one of those 661 carbon helmets, it is 2 years old and you can see the carbon delemaniting (sp?) and start cracks under the clear coat. I have a troy lee composite and they are a nice helmet for sure.

Try both on and buy the one that fits best. I found that the 661 was to narrow for my head but the troy lee was perfect. If you go the 661 just get the normal fibre glass version. My 2 cents

Get the most comphy one. Personaly i would get the SixSixOne because i can get it cheap but if the Troy Lee Designs one is comphy get that because it would maybe last a while more according to 'Cave Dweller.'

Good luck getting one!

Like everyone else has mentioned, the number one factor to consider should be fit, everything else (weight, ventilation, looks etc.) should be a secondary consideration.

i have a 661 full cravo carbon and i find that it fts really well. it is about as light as my pisspot (spesh rogue) and just as comfortable.

wombat, i agree but isnt the weight also going to affect how comfortable a helmet is? if, for example, you are wearing one of those shitty ones from target (yes we still have some and they weigh as much as a pair of DJ3's(well nearly)) you are going to feel it in your neck. when i first got my 661 i went for a good solid 2 hour ride and was totally comfortable the whole way and my neck had no cramping or tightening or anything. comfy as.

i can't comment on the D2 (i am assuming you are looking at the D2) but from what i hear they are also very comfortable, but alot more expensive.

You're right, it probably will affect comfort, but comfort isnt the reason that I mentioned fit. The reason I mentioned it was that a correctly fitting helmet is absolutely essential if the thing is going to protect you head properly.

I know all about compromises having to be made to get a helmet that fits properly :o .

Fit is most important but I would rate weight second and looks last. I have an 8year old Troy lee D1(?) carbon that has taken heaps of hits and is holding up fine, don't know what other brands carbon work is like but Troy lee or whoever makes thiers(maybee Shoe) have it dialed.

D2 for sure. i wont buy anything else now i have one. They fit like a glove, a very well fitting one at that, and also look the shit, but mainly they are a great fit.

Agreed. D2s are incredibly comfy, lighter than most, and they look awesome.

As to my understanding of the situation, Cramers gets what TLD feels like sending them.
