I *think* my Peeler will be maybe a kilo lighter with the new wheels, so maybe 20 kilos by the time it gets to the start line.

d8 rolls in at 20.0 kgs. but that was without full pressure in the tyres, so maybe 20.5...

could do with some weight loss.

not having a gigapipe BB, lighter cranks, tubeless, not having a 6 foot long seat tube and cut the steerer down.

at the moment weight weeny tactics are not going to help me much. ill just peddle a little harder and rape the shit out of the bike and track.

A little off topic, but still on the whole weight thing...How many of you guys run one spring in your boxxers? I run one hard spring instead of two soft springs, cuts down on a bit of weight and there is no difference in handling.

I made a few threads on the topic myself and got some good replies. I might search myself and post them here later if I can be stuffed.

My Cannondale weighs in at 16 kgs.

No weight saving mods yet, I don't see the need.

Turner DHR. Right on 19kg (41.8lb) at the moment. Aiming for sub-40 which should be doable with a few mods (Ti spring, lighter wheels, etc)

Interestingly (for me anyway), I've been in contact with some other DHR owners in the US who have built DHRs to about 38lbs. However, when comparing part lists they've saved weight in different areas to me so with careful part selection I think a 36-37lb DHR is quite possible without sacrificing durability or strength too much.

well IIRC, when you stick a mojo kit in a boxxer, it removes the needfor a spring and oil in one side. plus you get all the joy of fox-esqueinternals too.

Hahah... Your not going to get the 36 if you put a 888 on there.

Got to weigh mine soon. I reckon around the 46lb mark for mine, but i couldn't really care. As long as nothing breaks and i don't have to constantly keep buying new parts then i am happy.

norco team dh - 20kg with 888's, ill save some weight by using standard tubes (not dh tubes), put on a 105 derailuer and cassette...

but, yeah, as long as it holds up im happy - you can save a bit of weight here and there, but you may as well just take a shit before the race.

I think if your frame is heavy to start with then you shouldnt cut the weight out everywhere else, it'll most likely make it weaker and weight mods cost ALOT - TI springs = $$$$$

if you ride a 223 the weight will be pretty low with a average build anyway, so if you are weight weeny, just buy a weight weeny bike to start with ;)

Yeah... the mojo Boxxer comes in at 2860 (complete w/oil, crowns and steerer - take that Marzocchi!) so changing to any other fork is going to add weight. One thing about the new breed of larger bore shocks (Romic, Avalanche, Curnett, etc) is the huge weight of the spring. Changing to Ti is over a pound saved on the Romic and even more on a Curnett.

i REALLY hope your joking...

why should i be joking?

thats the weight that was generated when i stuck it on the scales at the airport.

im gussing that the weight of the tyres with air might be 500grams inflated. i dunno. never weighed a full tyre...

and that was pre box weight. i wanted to know how heavy my bike was and that was before i broke it down. so pedals, seat, frame, fork, deflated wheels... i just rolled it onto the big scale and it came up 20.0kgs.

BB7 19kg/41.8lbs. I will get it lower when I get rid of the goofy heavy rear wheel and whack something light in there. Also havn't gone tubless yet. Whats lighter, Mavic DH tubless set up, Stans, or Getto BMX tube deal? Do any 888 owners want to get some Titanium springs, I'm gonna look into it. I must brake 40lbs. I've not sacraficed on strength as yet.

DNM USDs, cro-mo cranks and a cro-mo frame does not, a light bike, make.

A proper mavic tubless setup will work best. mavic UST rim with UST tires eliminates the need to run stans at all. Problem is the mavic UST rims are crap and fold really easy.

Stans is the next best, with a proper rim strip.

Getto is a pain to setup, the folded over BMX tube needs alot of pressure to seat propeperly, you need an air compressor to get it to work and it will be spraying white shit every where until it seals.

Also, putting in 300ml of stans or liquid latex or whatever doesn't save alot of weight. What it does do is make the tire ride and grip a little better, at the expense of being a real pain to setup and change tires. Stans or the latex only lasts a few months before it dries up and needs to be done again.

I would run DH tires and XC tubes if you want to save weight. I have gone through the whole tubless thing and won't run it again until mavic fix up the rim problems and UST tires are cheap and reliable so i don't have to mess around with a stans setup. My 2 cents

Yeah I run XC tubes in the front and a semi DH tube in the rear. How light are D-Max wheels compared to say a 521 Mavic with a Hadley for example?

Yeah I run XC tubes in the front and a semi DH tube in the rear. How light are D-Max wheels compared to say a 521 Mavic with a Hadley for example?

Rim for rim they are almost the same weight. The thing with mavic tubless rims, like the deemax and EX823, is they weigh the rims without the screw-in eyelets. With the eyelets in a mavic 521 (ex721) is slightly lighter. Mavic 521's are alot stronger then deemax or 823 rims. I would bet money that a hadley would be lighter then the mavic hub as well. On top of that mavic hubs do not engage as fast (like 16 engaement points) and the cones always come loose (or so i have read on ridemonkey).

If i were given the choice of a 521/ Hadley combo or mavic DeeMax i would take the hadley combo. Easy to get rims, spokes and hub parts. If you then want tubless get the stans setup but just be prepared for a bit of stuffing around when you want to change tires. If you don't mind that it's fine.

Mountain cycle shockwave, 888, D321's, all the strong stuff...
19kg (maybe a few dot points more, i'll recheck when ive got my bike back together.. the frame/shock is 9.7lbs so thats light even though my parts arent)

Skiddy - i'm half interested in that, but the deciding questions, how much weight would the Ti springs save, and how much would they cost? i'm sure more guys would be interested too.
