Hey everyone. Just letting you all know that there is a DH race being held in this weekend near mansfield. Its in a little place called Barjarg. Its a two day event on a great new track!
Get your mates together and make a weekend out of it. There is camping on site.. Fully set up with a movie screen that will be showing all the latest mtb vids. It should be great fun... Spread the word....
Ill put up a flyer and directions a bit later on tonight. If you have any questions get in contact with me..
If you or any mates/ partners/ sisters/ brothers/ parents/ or any old stranger off the street thinks that they might be able to help over the weekend, please, please, please ask the to help... These event rely on volenteers... Make an effort if you want more races!!! It would be great to get a group of helpers...
Cheers,
Sam Steinlauf

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO baby! this track looks quite nice. I was up there a few weeks ago and (pretty unsucesessfully) attempted to roll the course set out. I really should get my fat ass up there and help one weekend.
Seriously though i've talked to sam about the plans for this weekend, if anything the socialising (read:drinking) will be worth it by itself :D
It will be great and i know i'll be there, i hope the turnup will be good, this track deserves it.

Cheers Rob... You should see the track now... Looking very nice indeed. Its come along way since then. But help is still needed. The track has been designed by myself and Ben Watkins. (with a little help from a few others). It should be a good test for the riders.... But dont stress if your thinking it will be too hard. everything hard has an easy option. :)
Best directions ever!

What about a working bee/ track testing day??

There is a working bee next sunday (13th). It would be great to get some helpers... I know its a fair drive for a day trip, but we will make sure that we will get some riding done. I think people that help get a discounted entry come race weekend. So that will help make it worth while.. If its too much driving for one day.. There might be a few of us camping there saturday night, for this you will need to get in contact with me as you wont be able to get in cause the gates will be locked. So just let me know..
Cheers,
Sam

Hey, its better then looking for the usual silly little signs that normally get used on the side of a road somewhere, or asking some local where to find a bike race... It never works too well. I always miss the stupid things...
We still will sign post the last bit probably, just too make it real easy...
Also, for people not from the east side, it might be quicker to go up the hume, then take the benalla exit, go towards mansfield along the midland hwy, then after about 45km turn left down lake nillacootie rd. (the rest is on the directions page)

There is a working bee next sunday (13th).
I'd be there for sure but i got the southern 80 boat race.... i'll be there for the main event though
any detail of the track apart from 'challenging'? What's it like and what could it be compared to?
Also, don't put all your faith in directions from that website. Some mates and I tested it out last time we went to hotham...It took us an extra 1.5 hours as the directions don't lead you on the most direct route, I think their program just connects certain roads that have been pre-programed, relates these roads to the next etc.
Sounds like the weekend would be well worth goin up...Now to check if I have an sacs.

im about to leave home now.. Im heading up there to do building for the next few days. Ill try and get some pics or video footage and post it up when i get back... Its kinda like stawell track, if you went to that... Wide open, lots of line choices. Lots of rock gardens... That kinda thing.. This is gonna make people think about what the fastest line is gonna be before they just hit a section flatout...

from what i know and what sam has told me
-fire restrictions are in force still AFAIK so fires wont be happening, i know it sounds stupid after recrod floods but meh, gas bbq's should be allowed though and hopefully if BSC and GC get a car up there or whatever there might be a bbq happening, we'll see how it goes.
-Fair chance food wont be available, the funding isnt there, get some from mansfield before you go, the prices are reasonable and its not too far if you want to go for a lunch run or whatever.
-Camping/parking may have a small charge put on it for the use of the projector saturday night but im not too sure, it'd only be like $5 anyway.
Hope that helps
and hope to see a biiiig turnout!!!

Ok here is some info,
* No fires... Its still dry up there even after all the rain.. Sorry, this includes gas bbqs too.
* Yes, there is food available on site... No need to stock up before you come, or do lunch runs.
* Food will be available after practice saturday and through untill dinner time. There will be basic hamburgers and sausages in bread on the menu. (limited supply of vegie burgers too). icypoles, all the usual drinks will be available, softdrinks coke, fanta ect, powerades, bottled water... There are no taps up there so i would say bringing a few large water containers with you would be a good idea.
* Sunday morning there will be bacon and eggs on offer from 7:30am onwards. After breakfeast menu it will go back too the same food as the day before...
any more info just ask.
Cheers,
Sam

ahh yes, ic, the food van. Well Robin said it was cool to take the BBQ, so if u wanna take it up and just let whoever use it that wants to on saturday night that might be worth considering, See how it goes anyway.
I'll see ya tomorrow, i need a new deraileur hanger... ;)

The track is pretty tight and techy.. But it also has some flat out high speed sections too... So i guess you would say it has both.. just more techy stuff..
One of the guys that were helping on the weekend with track building was taking pics of the track, so ill see if i can get some pics to post up for you guys to check out..

If we supply a bbq... We need a food licence to do it... Or we will get sued when we give a few hundred people food poisoning.. So, we decided it would be easier and safer just let a pro do it..

yeah fair enough, the bbq would need to have "pro" on it somewhere to be good at a dh venue. like my boxxers! ;)

Hey, Great to hear that you want to get into this great sport. The more young guys that get into it the better the sport will become...
Well, id love to say that my race will be way better... Id love to see heaps of young guys there. The truth is, Im spewin that it fell on the same weekend as the interschools... I started by racing back in the first interschools at buller back in '98.. Have never looked back.. The interschools is a great way to get younguns into the sport. Im sure you would have a ball if you go to the interschools..
On the other hand, club races are great fun too... This race should be no exception.
The way i see it. If some mates from school are going to the interschools, set up a team and have a ball up there... The only thing is that it will be a expensive weekend. (especially for a student).. If your a little short for cash or the parents dont wanna drive all the way to threadbo, this more local race sounds like the go... Ill leave it up to you. Either way you will have fun...
If you decide to come to my race come and say hi and ill do a run with you (ill be on a iron horse sunday team with a white and brown fox top with brunswick street cycles logo on it).
Hopefully ill see you there!

I will be taking photos of every section on the track, and we will be doing at least one helmet cam run at the end of the day after the track work has been finished. Still there is nothing like checking out the track in person so if anyone is free this sunday come up and help out at the working bee so you can check out the track yourself.

checked out the track this arvo, looking AWESOME guys!
i looked at about the last 300m of the track, the guys said its like a world cup style track, tight and techy at the start, then wide open and fast at the bottom, tell ya what photographers, this is gonna be a field trip and a half for you guys. the tape is spread out pretty wide which is really good, lots of lines to be taken, one where you could prob launch around 8-10 foot down, or stick left and roll it. bits of off camber. its going to be interesting to hear about some of the stacks that are bound to happen though, found a few nice spots.
oh, im the kid who came at about 5:45 wearing a blue tee. did you see any snakes up there?

Yeah, lots of line choices... Should be a heap of fun trying to find the fastest line... It will be interesting to watch how some people ride different sections... Its gonna be a great track for spectating. So everyone, bring your friends and family members too.. they will get to see some great racing..
As for the helmet cam.... My camera is cracking the poos with me and wont do as i tell it too... Stupid camera... Ill keep trying though.. It should be ok if i can get it to work.. We did 2 runs with it on. It was on ben watkins's head both runs..

The race is this weekend! Damn its comming up pretty quick... Hope your all comming... Even if your not. please tell as many people as you can. We have tried to get as many flyers out as possible to the different stores. Although some stores have refused to hand out flyers/ put up posters as the race is sponsored by another store.. Im worried that there will be people that would want to come but dont even know about the race cause of a few stores. Its a bugger for my race..I just wanna get as many people up there as possible. Anyways, please let everyone that you know about the race... Thanks heaps!

Ill be wearing a white/ kinda goldy brown fox top with the brunswick street/greenborough bike logos on it. Come and say hi if you see me.
