Heard from a few people that the jumps copped a pounding during the storms earlier this week.
I haven't been up there to check it out, but i reckon a day of digging will do the place good anyway.
I suck at jumping, but I'm willing to help out.
meeting up there 10am ish, bring tools. I'll probably bring a few shovels and a mattock.

I have never seen the rain do anything like this to the jump park. The rythms are basically filled up with alot of silt, sandy sort of stuff, so need re-scooping.
The other worst hit area was along running down the hill on the right side of the area the water has carved it's own way thru the berms and the landing on the last big double. Oh and Carlo's line has been filled up with alot of sand thru the main drainage area.
All the other jumps got pounded by the rain and just need dirt layered onto them to restore the shapes.
To be honest it's not that bad, and a small team of 3 people could fix it all in a day with ease!!
I'm going to try to make it up sometime over the w/end for some digging in between other commitments.

Would it be any good for future storms to line the jumps/landings with hession so to stop the erosion? (especially if they are worse next time) Then cover them with dirt and firm them down. That way next time all you have to do is cover them again.
Could be an idea, and i can get some free hession from work.
(for those that dont know, hession is the material they make sacks out of)
Cheers, Alan.
I've volunteered 40 square metres of carpet, if someone can transport it up there, it's a done deal. I'll even cut the carpet up in to appropriate sizes pieces when it's pulled up, to make life even easier. It'd make for a great way to ensure longevity of the jumps I beleive.
The whole place washed away, its just dirt and sand.Dirt? Since when was there dirt up there

In the 4 and a half years that I have been riding up there I have never seen a rainstorm do that
I'd guess it has had to do with the drought. The ground has been pretty dry for a while (like 24 months) [1], and alot of work has been done up there in the last few weeks especially (but also in the last two years). I think the especially heavy rain just washed away what has been some pretty loose dirt.
Of course the problem now is that all the silt inbetween the jumps will dry out and turn into sand ;)

[1] I think the last time it was fairly wet was when the Dam was shut down, and Red Hill over the last two years has not been as wet in genral on the trails as it was when I first started riding there.

I am concerned about how many times RH is being posted on farkin, we dont need the publicity so why dont you give it a break, pm each other if you want to meet up there. After the Australia Day ride the place is a shit fight, no wonder the erosion from Thursday is bad.
Also there is no need for concrete on the kickers, build the jumps with dirt only and they will last.
Im being dead serious, if RH gets knocked down after years of work we are not going to be happy. Its already on the local councils radar from the guy who got air lifted.

Was up there digging this arvo, it wasnt as bad as i though it would be. Still needs a shit load of work, so jumping is basically closed for tomorrow atleast (even Sunday, if people dont pull their fingers out), unless you wanna come help dig, if not, FUCK OFF!!
Ps. Cheers Allan, that could be useful.
