WSMTB Downhill Round 1 Dargle "B" track Sunday 13th February. Rego 9:00 busses start 9:30 racing 12:00, two runs best off. Cost $35 day licence $15 club membership $95. Download membership form from web site and bring on Sunday. New Cove jump was added on Saturday at track work and bolts to hold catch nets back.
Dargle "A" track is short track record of 1:22 and nasty, 2 drops, 2 chutes and rock stairs. Dargle "B" track is longer 2:24 and while not easy has only two difficult sections, which do not trouble experienced riders. Dargle "A" is now reserved for state elite men and women, under 19 and masters 1&2, and may be used for club A grade on occasion this year.

We will have membership form at rego if you want to join. Club membership ($95) is for a year and entitles you to race in any MTBA event in Australia for the year. You will still have to pay race fees ($35 in this case) but day licences ($15 per event) are not needed.

the Dargle 'B' track is longer and more pedally than the maddness of Dargle 'A'
it's good, but is still a work in progress
we hope to continue developing it, with strong and hard A lines and easier slower B lines for newcomers
the top section has been worked on to remove some dead spots and the middle section is now pretty challenging at speed, and has some good spectator/photo places
dontyell Ben will be there snapping the camera so there is a good chance of getting your mug in a half decent photo too
... more plans in the pipeline................
all help welcome!!!!

a good day today at Dargle
plenty of spills but, to my knowledge, nothing serious
Riks luck was not playing fair as he got held up by another rider on one run then pinch flatting on his second (one word, SUSPENSION)
Wombats 'Hitler' moustache plaster looked particularly fetching and i can see it catching on!!
seemed like there was loads of picture taking going on so expect to see some cropping up here and there
top effort Steve and Julia Humphfries, WSMTB club, etc, etc

everyone had atleast 1 spill on that sandy berm
i got axed
least i had another run after that
top effort Steve and Julia Humphfries, WSMTB club, etc, etcIt was a good day, shame there wasn't a BBQ at the event, so a cherry ripe and coke from the ski park had to suffice for race fuel (eaten whilst trying to ride back up the access road too). The track is improving, but at the same time needs a bit more work/riding to really become a top course. Props to the guys that are putting in the effort, including a certain deranged someone that decides ladder drops are fun to put before a sandy+rocky+narrow slope.
I can't wait to see pics from the day, there would've been some cool snaps taken, and I especially want to see my crash off the drop... mega fork slap + being bucked = squirrily off-course action, followed by hitting a tree and going over the bars
But not as good as Shaynes effort, who decided to kiss the wrong thing... and then there was Marcus (I think) that got flung many metres off course down the hill, and another bloke (A grader) that went OTB on the last rocks before the finish... it wrapped himself around a tree, then his bike wrapped around the both of them. It looked painful, but with crashes like that you can't help but laugh.
I saw another guy cruising around with a strapped wrist, I hope it wasn't from a crash that day. It seems that whilst there were a few offs (yay sand+offcamber), but nothing major, and that's how we like it... some good photos as a result, war stories, and nothing more. If you have any pics/footage, or know of any floating around online, be sure to post/link it here on Farkin!

there's a reason for it being there, the thing was too heavy to carry up any further!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
seriously though, it's one of the few places where there is a defined A and B line.

Hahaha, lazy bastard :p Nah, the drop was good fun and a good addition I think; I reckon a bit of bunting on the rocks behind the hairpin wouldn't go astray though....

It seems my little off-track adventure after Cove drop has left its mark on me, there were no apparent injuries to note from it (luckily), but today I've found heaps of little spiney things lodged in my thigh, 10 or so of them, each one about 3-4mm long, all penetrated perpendicular to the skin. Damn spikey plants

Can someone explain how that systems works??????
You have A, B & C grade, but then in that is sports, expert/elite, U17, U19 etc etc. Whats the deal????
AFAIK the grades are what we raced on the weekend, and the next category is what table we'll be on for the club pointscore. Am I right

So what happens if next time you race out there and you get an elite/expert time, do you get moved up a catagory??
Why don't they just leave it set up as A=Expert, B=Elite and C=Sport?

A=Elite B=Expert C=Sport is the norm ,,,,, But ..
not to good for those Chicks and under 15 and 17 riders that turn up is it
Stevo likes to get everybody in the game with true results of there
respective classes ..
we at WSMTB know it's only a club race but why not give accordingly
to the classes ..
and no you wont get mooved up unless you ask ..
you will stay where you started the club season unless ofcourse
your racing C Grade and kill the elite/ A-grade times ,, Steve will move you

Hmm... ok, seems fair i was just a bit confused.
Well, it looks like i came 4th in sport (number 404) but i crashed in my first race run in the big sand pit berm after the log jump and before the cove drop, and my second run was a shambles, just couldn't link anything together. Only had 4 hours sleep the night before, should have know better :D
So, i wasn't that impressed with my times, i reckon i would have lost between 5-10 seconds in my first run getting back up and trying to get up the hill with no momentum.
The track was ok, really sandy in places, and really rocky in places, and really flat/uphill in places. I would have liked to have gotten some more time in practicing before racing, 3 runs is not enough time for me to memorize things :) The top section is where you make or break your run. My bike is not ideal for that track either, i reckon a light dually (ie 6inch front and rear) or a light DH bike with SPV would be perfect.
All in all i thought it was ok, looking forward to the next one, hopefully can do a bit better. Is there any reason for there being 2 months till the next club round?

not to sure the reason for the big gap in racing ,, will pass that one

I am going to have to learn how to put tables into this program.
To enter tables, use the "code" function, which is either the # symbol in the editor, click it or type in front of the table, and once the table's pasted in, click the symbol again to close the tags, or type after it.

top effort for the points breakdown Steve
it's easy to understand if you read it
in club races we don't get the numbers to list every grade so we do ABC then break it down after that
i like it
i was 10th in B grade which worked out at 2nd in Masters Men 1&2
WITH G-MAN IN THE CROSSHAIRS!!!!!
can't wait for the next race
one of the reasons of the big break is because we started early in the season 'cos there is so much on and we are trying to avoid clashes between race meetings for XC/DH/4X
