I'm really stoked that mountain biking is getting bigger and stuff, made in part by freeride comps. But what about comps like Crankworx. What is it? I am not too sure if that is mountain biking or BMX?. These days it is kinda hard to tell whether or not these guys in these comps are mountain biking or "BMXing" on a mountain bike?

I think the comps like Red Bull Rampage and Red Bull Ride (rest in peace) are better for our sport because they are doing something that has never been done before and we can truly call it Mountain Biking.

There is nothing wrong with Crankworx and whatever the other comps that are related to it are called, but I think they are not Mountain Biking. I just think it sucks that most of the money, sponsorships, media coverage and hype is based on something that in reality is not genuine to our sport!

What do you guys think?

I think to try and segregate "freeriding" is silly, the beauty of the sport is that it's young and developing, and can take all sorts of influences from all sorts of areas. To ignore the ability to take other styles and adapt it to MTB "freeride" narrows the potential for progression, we'd be stuck doing our own thing which may be cool, it'd get boring and only have one direction to go in. As soon as you allow outside influences, all sorts of cool stuff starts happening when genres collide and combine to produce something new again.

^word.

crankworx was not really a BMX'ish comp. It was just dominated by the BMX stylezzz (and dodgy ones at that. barhump flip to dodginess to whip off? please god, make it stop!!!)

unfortunately, in my mind, freeride will never be able to be brought together at one comp. there have been huckfests (with the occasional hardtail dud) and BMXness fests, with some guy on a "real" bike making themselves look silly.

I cannot see this change, and it sucks.

what Id like to see is a true test of rider skillz (w00t!). have a points based DH race one day, a huckfest event the next, and a bmx one the day after., Points averaged out at the end of the events, most skilled rider gets the award... and the sport still gets the coverage.
