i'm looking for a new DH bike
have around 4 to 4.5 grand saved up at the moment
i can get a secondhand m1 for around the 4.5
and there is a few 04 v10's floating around
but these are secondhand but well used
but for the around the same price or only a little more
i can get an 05 brand new ironhorse 7.5 (5g) or sunday (6g)
less if i pay cash
if i really stretch it
any one seen any other bikes for around 4 to 4.5g price
worth a look at ?
was even looking at the mongoose freedrive black diamond triple

The DHi is way sweet
i checked out the O5 dhi the other week it's around 6g i think
THE DHi for 3.5 g is the one that was reviewed in Clict Mag
sounds good value but might have had a hard life
being raced and test ridden all season.
I still have a bit of a soft spot for Mongoose
For the price the mongoose black diamond triple
is exceptionally well speced
What does anyone think about the frame though ?
Now that GT and Mongoose are under the same roof
pacific brands the same designer of the GT i drive frames
designed the mongoose freedrive frame
any opinions ?
or just don't go there ?

Personally i don't think the Mongoose will make a decent DH bike, the geometry just isn't there. For $4.5k you can get a lot of bike second hand, and something like a V10 (try and source one without a floater though- they're lighter and better). New, you really can't go past a DH Comp, they're sorted for the money (could do with some better brakes though) but its an awesome bike for the money.

I would stay away from the mongoose, bad looking Geometry. You should be able to pick up a 2nd hand Iron Horse SGS Team for that money, damn good race bike. Or Giant DH comp. Both popular common bikes for a good reason.

What about a Norco Shore? Freeride based but pretty sweet angles and the best spec of any thing out there. 888's, Race Face diabulus, dhx 5.0, sram and the thing is solidly built.

You had a look at the Kona range? 05 stab or a stinky supreme, very good, tough Dh Bikes.

yeah, 4 sure check out the kona range, those bikes will outlast you.
for that money you've got a very wide range of bikes second hand.
have you thought about a Craftworks S1? i've got a freind who is getting his delivered this week, and he only paid under$4000 brand new with full warranty and built up (straight from the factory!). they have an awsome spec too.
as for Ricky's bike, yeah, it's an awsome bike, but don't forget how hard he rides (if you don't know, he's spondored by IronHorse and does well in all the nats and interschools), so it has been pretty hammered.
DH Comp? mmm, i dunno, just a little on the weak side. and the forks are pretty soft (not in the good way - lots of flex).
norco? does seem like a damn good deal! i haven't ridden one but you should!
and check out new demos, you can still pick up a 04 Demo 9 for 5k new! or try a deal on a Demo 8, although you'd have to bargain pretty hard!
Cheers,
Sam

oh, and Jared Rando is selling one of his 04 bikes. it's dialed! plus it comes with a lot of spares (wheels, rims, chain device, etc.). he does look after his shit too.
e-mail him through www.jaredrando.com.au if your interested.
i think hes asking around 4k for it.
remember it's a custom frame with 9.25" travel, custom size and with better geometry.
Cheers

What about an ex Demo Commencal Supreme DH it is 5 weeks old and has only been riden by myself and some people looking at buying one and raced atclub races and 2 national rounds and is being moved for $4500.00. It has pritty spanky red Dorados, six way swinger
both mantained by Mantiou xo,x9 plus other top shelf parts and the frame has clear contact on it so it is in mint conditon. This is the same model (not his bike) that Ben Cory has been ripping on this year.
The bike is for sale because it is Black and we wish to use a standard colour (white) not a Team only colour for a mag test.
Drop me a pm or call Ben on 04212 78899 for more info
