Check this place out!!!
Rode with the southside boys on Sunday. Excellent day.
Went to a new track out the back of Nowra. Took just over two hours from my place on Sydney's Northside to get there.
After a bit of bumping along the fire roads to get to the trail head thounght I was on the Northshore of Vancouver. Big Forrest and a huge moss covered rock just above me. I half expected Wade Simmons or one of the freeride crew to bust it out from behind and clear the lot of us. Anyway the track was long and raw with some really interesting bits. Heaps of little kickers and ramps up over logs. Super smooth on the landing even the larger ones. A couple of 1 to 1 1/2 metre drops and one two to three metre. Really smooth tranny on this one.
One steep rock spine that under the greasy condition had everyone just hanging on to the rut. You enter this from a really tight set of switch backs through these really dramatic rocks. Good photo stuff.
Oh and there is a fairly big gap jump that you just can't help but float over, once again a great tranny.Super smooth.
Some tight steep little shoots and after a run of at least five minutes you get to the bottom. The return shuttle takes about ten minutes.
Really killer track.
There is a section of fire road in the middle but there is plans to take this out and complete the single track from top to bottom.
Deftinately worth a drive if you want something new and challenging to ride.
This place is quite raw and despite the ramps I got the feeling of a "natural" kind of track.
It is a bit hard to find so if you want to ride it contact Gravjunky and I'm sure they will show you the setup. I know they want crew down there to ride it so get into it.
One other thing we rode it after some rain and would not have got to the top without a four wheel drive so this could be an advantage as well. I know there are photos on the way.
A huge thanks to the crew Pat, Louie, Twiffy and Warren. Hope I got those right. And see you next time.

You need a 4WD to get up the last bit of Wandean rd. (unless it hasn't rained for a couple of days and you have no respect for your 2WD). The road coming for the right hand side of the map is Wandean rd. and the Hwy is about 7kms from that point. By all means ride our track but please leave it the way you found it.
What is an aproximate timed run for this trail guys???

Tis a very kool track. I am particularly happy for the Nowra boys. You guys have put a shit load of work into this and it shows. I think a few guys from the Gong are going down tomorrow to ride it.
For those with cars, beware! the very top is 4wd country. I had to turn my 2wd around fearing damage haha. (note to work - not the company car!)
Lets change the title, and omit 'Wollongong' from it. This is as much a Wollongong track as fucking Alice Springs! It is a Nowra/Shoalhaven track and thats that. When the Gong eventually get a track, they can post up, and I'm sure they wouldn't want it called the Nowra/Wollongong track..... fark I'm a turd! haha. Jord, your old man will get it done for sure. THE hardest working man in MTB in the Illawarra!
Rock on.

Wait 'till you see the DVD of the Helcam run, with Reuben wearing the cam and Benny in front stylin'. When Lewy gets his sound card working on his computer, we'll get some copies around. Thanks to all the Gong boys that came down and helped to add another fun section to the Funnelweb.

Its not in Wollongong. Not even NEAR Wollongong. From Sydney, Wollongong is half way.... It is a Shoalhaven track.
Wollongong will be the next Whistler if/when Jordy's old man becomes Mayor ;)

Rode the Funnelweb today with Triff, Steakhead and Dean. The beefed up berms and new section of track go off. Ridin' the log, is still the quicker option, even tho' the B-line has been shortened. I busted my chain right at the top of the track (about 8 secs in) on my last run, so I rolled the track and only had to get off twice and walk (about 6 paces each time). Not bad for a track thats around 5 mins long, when you put it in.
Bring on the State Round...........

Hey just searching and digging through old threads and I found this one.
I live on the north side of the river, more bush than north nowra itself and was wondering exactly where this track was, is it way out yawal way?
Down anyone know who built it and the single track though north nowra, big ups to those who did I love and ride it everyday, dont worry i maintain it too.

yeah just wanna say thanks to all the locals down south!;)
went out with some of the southies last weekend, and had a fuckin ball!
few arguements with the locals, but it all smoothed out. i will be more than happy to come down and help maintain trails, as long as we can keep riding those biiatches.:D
first time shuttling with proper downhill trails... i now understand what this sport is about:cool:

We were down there riding untill one of our crew had to be taken to hospital.
So who were the locals you had an argument with?? (ie what bikes were they riding or what were they shuttling in). Also what was it about, as we're a pretty cruisey bunch down here.

it was at one of the gong trails. we were on our second shuttle, and they were waiting for us at the top of the trail. wasnt really an argument, more a " hey u sydney guys should really fuck off and ride ur own trails"...
we were all like fair enoug, and ended up just talking about it.
dude was an older guy with a beard on a Faith 2(i think).
as i said to him, if i knew any bloody trails up my way id ride them... but i dont.
we left after that run. he was pissed cause some sydney blokes were coming down and just not respecting the place. Tearing up peoples lawns and just generally being offensive.... so the residents complained and the usual scenario ensued.

No man, we're on the south coast, our track is up in the hills from Wandandian. The Gong boys haven't got any legal tracks, thats why they're so protective, as it only takes one dickhead pissin' off the local residents and the Nazi Parks and Wildlife Rangers show up puffin' their chests out and threatening all types of shit to come your way.
Come and ride our track, there's room for anyone that doesn't want to cockhead on.
Check out http://www.scum.asn.au/index_files/page0004.htm for directions

the dude that was cranky with us on that trail was walking up the trails. as he does'nt beleive in shuttling. maybe people north of bulli are snobby protective people?
next time we will just park somewhere away from the dead end bit.im not gonna stop riding there, never had an issue in the past, always quiet and discreet when out riding.
i live right at the end of one of the mt keira tracks, and never had isues with loud people. locals dont seem to mind.

dont think are you talking about the track @ nowra more like the one at thirroul.
All the locals push up as it does not take to long at all, and not piss of the locals that live there doin shuttle runs, as this happened at bulli & was closed down.

I would have said the same thing to you if i had of seen you guys shuttling there just because we have put in alot of hard work building the track and all it take is one local to complain about ppl don runs ands its over for us. We are all happy for any one to ride there as long as they dont do shuttles all the locals do push runs for that reason.
