No, I had a Gemini 2000, I brought the santacruzframe & 888 forks in the US. Brought the rear wheel off Farkin. Put most of the parts from the Gem on this one. Chaged the E13 for the DA BOMB chainguide- better looking & works better.

Got one too.....see my post ure ride of a few weeks ago.....

Like you I used parts from my defunct Gemini to get mine running.

They are a superb do it all frame and (depending on build) are not as heavy as one would think. They climb great, go downhill great, ride trails great.

Enjoy it.

PS: If you want to make it a little more trail adaptable, I can recommend the Aireal Industries 888 lower crown. This will get the front end lower as well as aiding in getting the frame geometry back to Santa Cruz's original specifications.
No Skid Marks has a pair of Aireal 888 crowns for sale in the parts forum

They are heavier than a v10 and that isnt exactly a light build, I love the bike, its bloody sex but saying its an all round bike might be taking it a bit far :p

Sorry bud but I ride one......every day......so I disagree.

Honestly, it suprised me how well it does climb, that vpp linkage has an effect on being able to transfer all the torque to the ground. In fact I can usually be a gear higher than I would be on my old bike (same cog combo).

Sure it's no xc bike, but if your fit you won't be that far behind an xc bike, then you'll be able to sail past dh doing at dh speed, then on the flats keep the same pace as an xc bike.

I'll be lining up for another vp free.

I agree with Gripper. I wack a 34 tooth chain ring on the front and climb all sorts of stuff. Definitly can be used as an all day bike (I did it yesterday). I was quickest on the downs too. Don't get me wrong it is still 40 pounds, but it is the best 40 pound climber I have ridden. Keep the wheels/tyres light makes a big difference to climbing. I'm running Mavic 521's and standard tubes. I would like to try tubeless but the jury is still out on that one

Awesome bike, now only if Santa Cruz saw fit to build 'em with a 1.5 head tube.

I'd love to own a VP Free, but I love my 1.5 Shermans too. One day maybe...

Anyway, good to hear the VP Free is all you hoped it'd be.

I agree with Gripper and Treggs, they certainly do appear to be able to out climb and feel lighter thay any other freeride weapon I've seen. I ride with Gripper as often as I can and he leaves me for dead on the hills. He fairly throws it around on the downs too.

Nice choice mate, I wish I had one. :)

hey iguana, i dunno how you've done it, but your pedals seem to be on the wrong way! either they've been rebuilt with the axles mixed up, or you seriously farked up some threads installing 'em...

nice bike otherwise.

Yeah, I think your right! I've had issues with the bearings in the peddles & have had them both off the axles before many times to service, I must have mixed them up. :o

Mate, when a thread is over a year old, it usually isn't the best idea to bring it back up. On farkin its called a 'gravedig'. However, this is a nice bike.

VP-free frames are about $3500 new.

A VP Free isn't heavier than a V10. My VP weighs in at 17 kilos. My ex V10 was around 19 kilos.
