the problem is the frame has horizontal dropouts and the hub that won't grip the frame properly without squashing bearings

i bought a bolt up axel for it which also cost a mint hoping it would help the problem but it hasnt

Hey,

Im not that farmilar with big uns but........

If your bearings are binding it could be that the bearings are not seated in the hub correctly. I have high lighted them in red. If it's not seated properly when you tighten everything it will bind.

You could also be missing some internal spacers, like for example if your missing spacers 11 or 1 the bearings will bind as it is tighted up.

Is the hub second hand? If i was you i would fully strip it down and rebuild. The hope hub looks very simple to service, very similar to a ringle which is easy as pie.

This drawing is of a hope bulb but they would all have the same internals i would assume.

Basically, if all the parts are there and everything installed correctly then it shouldn't bind. My bet is it's not assembled properly or is missing some parts. If it is second hand may also be possible that the bearings in the hub may not be the same width as the orginal ones, that could cause some problems as well.
