Just wondering if you get a better performing and longer lasting set of pads with the more pricey replacements... Any thoughts?

I'm running EBC reds, and their working pretty good. They are supposed to wear faster because they are a softer compound but mine haven't worn at all really in the time i've had them, so no complaints there.

They grab pretty hard and are working well, but i'm sure there would be more insta-grab pads out there, and ive heard the EBC golds (full sintered) have just as much if not more power and last longer too... Those might be worth a try instead.

The stock hayes sintered pads have always grabbed hard on bikes i've tried with them too, no complaints there.

Never tried the A2Z's but i'd say with them being cheaper they mightnt be as nice as EBC or genuine brand pads. But who knows could be good.

I've also heard good things about kool-stop pads, to chuck something else in the mix. http://www.koolstop.com/brakes/DiscBrakes/

A2Z's don't stop as well. Must be a harder compound or something.... They just don't have the power. They do seem to be lasting really well though....and they are cheap. I'll be getting hayes original next time....when the A2Z's finally wear out

I can't speak on the A2Zs, but if they're anything like a lot of other cheap pads (Fibrax for example) they'll be a total waste. I ran a set of Fibrax sintered pads, and after 12 and a half months there was NO noticeable wear, they were that hard! There was no bite to speak of either...
I've got EBC golds in there now and they feel pretty good, but the originals are always a safe bet. I've also been told on good authority (and experienced myself) that the EBC spring clips are a bot of a joke, they just dont seem to hold the pad to the post very well.

I've run EBC Golds, EBC Reds, and Hayes sintered pads. The Hayes ones seem to be the best of the lot, followed by the Golds and then the Reds. To me, wear isn't an issue because they invariably get contaminated rather than worn out (I really need to be more careful with my bike!). Haven't tried the A2Z ones though.

I have used the fibrax sintered pads. Hardly any wear at all but made heaps of noise. I had to get rid of them as no one wanted to ride with me.

Origanal Hayes lasted 1 month

Am running the A2z pads now and have had no probs with them. They stop well and seem to last ok, around 1500kms now and about half worn.

keep in mind that there are two models of "original Hayes"

Semi metallic:
these now come on almost all Hayes equiped bikes as OEM fitment.

Positives:
decent stopping power.
cheaper than full sintered metal pads
quiet. (very little "squealing")

Negatives:
short lifespan. (they wear out fast)
not as good stopping power.
not as good in bad conditions. (particuarly the wet)

Full Sintered metallic:
These came on Hayes brakes a few years back and are available as an aftermarket upgrade now.

Positives:
amazing stopping power. surperb in bad conditions. (particuarly the wet)
long lasting.

Negatives:
Not quiet. (can be prone to "squealing")
more expensive.

Hope that helps.

Also to add to Waynes post a fully sintered brake pad is harder on your rotor, wearing it out quicker.
