I'm looking at upgrading my 0EM 05 Boxxer rides to
Aftermarket 05 Boxxer World cup forks
Does anyone know if the 05 OEM ride crowns and steerer
is the same quality as the Aftermarket 05 world cup crowns
and steerer ?
would it just be a simple matter off removing
the ride stanchions from the top and bottom crowns
and sliding the world cup stanchions in their place
that way i can sell my rides off with
full length steerer and have no mucking around with
removing the ride crowns/steerer
and headset crown race ,
cutting down the steerer
and reinstalling it all again
thanks in advance
cheers
Not sure if you mean you want to use the WC crowns + steerer on the Ride, or the stanchions as well - but considering the ride is 6-7" travel, and all the other 05 boxxers are 8", i'd guess that the stanchions are longer and won't fit.
As for just the crowns fitting, maybe, (ask lbs perhaps) but I don't see why you'd want to?:confused:
Considering the Ride's are OEM, if they are coming on a bike, then they'd likely have the steerer cut down to fit the bike anyway... If you want a different fork just get them switched out at the shop instead of wasting money trying to keep the Ride's "resale value" or whatever.
Maybe I just misread the post though.

Yeah all boxxer crowns are universal so you can just switch the legs across easily. I'm pretty sure the crowns are identical between the different models but the WC might have an Easton steerer of something so that could be worth checking. Also, the colour could be different which may be a factor if that worries you.
But, like uDi said, you'd be better off upgrading instore if you can.

Udi,
the OEM rides and crowns and cut down steerer is
installed on the bike
just trying to take the easy way out by
just undoing the ride crowns bolts
and just installing the world cups without using
the wc crowns and steerer
that way i don't need to stuff around with
removing the stem etc
cutting down the wc steerer and
changing crown races over
just wanting to know if the OEM ride crowns and steerer are same quality as the Aftermarket wc crowns and steerer
as the stanchion diameters are the same on both forks
so they will definitely fit
Other thing i learnt
don't always believe what the LBS tells you
as often the answer is the one
you want to hear
just so they make a sale

What you are proposing, will save you about a grand total of 10 minutes work on your installation. Why not just do it properly?

Ever watch Malcom in the Middle?
Reminds me of the way the kid in the wheelchair talks.

Point taken
I only write them not read them
Will try harder next time
You guys remind me of my English teacher
that's something she would say
must be why I never did any good at English
BTW what do you reckon the LBS would do ?
do you reckon they would do it properly or take the lazy way out
and just swap the stanchions over cause it's quicker and easier to do for them and no one would know the difference
cheers

Hmmm... Most would ask you what you wanted to do - well the reputable ones anyway. Just switching the lowers and legs saves having two cut down steerers floating around.

For anyone looking at doing something similar
just got the word from sram that
The crowns and steerer are the exact same between the World Cup and the Ride.

Something to take into consideration. The lower crown and the lower legs have the serial number on them. I would check and make sure if you needed to warranty the fork SRAM would not have a problem with mis-matched numbers.

i totally forgot about the serial nos.
i think it's only a sticker on the steerer these days
but not sure
will have to check that out
cheers
