Hi.

Installing an E.13 with some big chunky Kona cranks onto a RaceFace chainring. (pic 1)

Problem is, when the crank is tightened to the bashy it bends the bashy in. This makes the chain pinch between it and the boomerang. (pic 2) Should I a) space out between the spider and the bashy (pic 3) b) space out betweet the crank and the spider (pic 4) or c) file the vally of the bashy down (pic 5).

I think this was actually answered by some one in a thread recently. I searched and for the life of me couldn't find the bugger. So I'm sorry to have to post this thread, but it's the last obstacle to getting my steed up and galloping!

I'd be getting on the bashy-filing program if I was you dude, that's what they reccommend for fitting the E13 up to Saint cranks and the like. J5ive has done it before I'm pretty sure, maybe PM him for some advice.

File the bashy down - until the bashy will sit flat on the 4 flats of the crank/spider, with no pressure at all (ie without screws).

You will basically have to file, fit, file, fit until it sits right. Where you file will depend on what part of the crank/spider is stopping the bashy from sitting flat on the spider.

Comprende?
If you do it right, the bashy shouldn't bend at all when screwed down - and remember not to tighten too much because that will damage the plastic.

If the chain is still rubbing then go for some spacers - make sure you space the ring inwards, and not the bashy outwards, because if you space the bashy outwards you'll obviously have to file it down all over again.

I have run my e-thirteen on saints and profiles. The profiles I could fit a spacer or two between the crank and the spider. Doesn't look like you can do that from the photo's. The Saint's I had to file the Bashy.. I just got a new e-13 and it is already machined (Factory) to fit Saints and similar

Wow! I thought filing the bashy would be laughed at as an option! But it sounds like the go, eh?

Cool will have a look around (have to buy a file now goddamnit) and see what others have done in this respect. Any other suggestions?

Paging J5ive....., PM for mr J5ive........

Haha, surely you can trust all these guys?

I just get the dremel onto it. Done at least 4 with no ill effects. And don't be too pedantic, by the time you hit a few rocks it will be scratched to the shithouse anyways. Good thing they are cheap to replace :D

As said above get it just to the point where the bolts can be fully cranked up without touching on the bashy.

Don't be worried about the strength, other guides use much thinner/weaker material and seem to survive.

Thank you very much for all your replies. They were a great help.

Just went up the hardware shop and bought myself a $10 file ;)
