That was just a naughty ploy to get you into my post, oh how I am quite the jest (laughs at selfs lame joke)
Here is my Co2 racer for school. I tried to start a thread about this once but no one replied, hopefully more interest! They are made out of balsa wood and have certain requirements/limitations etc. Mine is running sealed hard drive bearings throughout, aluminium axles, enclosed and recessed wheels.

sorry, fucked up pics but should work now.
Actually they go incredibly fast, over 100 k or something
Looks good, nice handiwork there. Does that run on the compressed C02 bulbs?

yes to C02 bulbs.
hmm we did this last year, worst project of the year for me. i too had the wheels inset but this became a bit of an issue as the car will tend to tip. have you run it at all yet? it depends a bit on the quality of the wheels, i found ours werent drilled straight so they made the car rattle a little if the axle was running on a tight bushing/bearing.
other then that im adamant that i got pine and not balsa. my car completely hollowed from the underside weighed like 100g while most peoples were 40-60g. combine that with a C02 cartridge that didnt blow and my car achieved a very unimpressive time.

Due to the rear wheels being recessed and not fully enclosed, stability is greatly improved. I solved rattling by balancing the wheels (rod in a drill press and lots of sanding). It runs perfectly straight when pushed, though it has not actually done a run with a C02 bulb.

Brings back memories! haha.
Mine was DOPE. I used the main shell and then stuck some stabalizers on from a balsa wood model jet boat. Looked mean. They were designed to run on a cable rather than wheels.
But we never got to launch them, and I took it home to try myself but my c02s were all duds. Wound have loved to see it fly.

hmmm. i have to say the whole thing was really disappointing.
all this effort just to see some design with no rhyme or reason behind it smash this well designed car. it all comes down to the soda bulbs and the hole puncher. neither are anywhere near constant.
on the network at school we have a vid of one of the races. you can see this massive puff of CO2 behind the winning car and this woefull drizzle behind the other. i might grab it off and stick it up somewhere.
