So i just got myself a shiny new front wheel, pumped as to give it a spin, i sit down to take the brake disc off my old wheel and can't work out what tool to use on these star shaped bolts, they looked so much like allen key bolts from afar.
So how do i get 'em off?? They're a 6 bolt on a hayes 8 inch disc with shimano hub, if that helps.

You need a Torx bit (sometimes called security bit).
Most rotor bolts will be a T25.

EDIT: If you're impatient/can't wait until tomorrow, sometimes you can get them off *carefully* using a flathead screwdriver.

If you have a drill bit kit, sometimes you'll find the correct size in there.

Yer i tried a flatty, but none of the ones i've got fit snug enough, there's heaps of loc-tite on the bastards, i'll just have to wait and hit the hardware shop in the morn.

How do i use a drill bit on the sucker? I don't have a drill with enough control to use that......

SX is talking about your little screw driver bit kits in the little flexy rubber holders, with all assorted sizes- that usually come in drills. T25 is pretty comon in the them.

either set your drill on a really low speed and don't pull the triggerin the whole way or you could find a socket adaptor and use a socketwrench or even use a shifter (or a regular spanner) and use that arounfthe hex part of the bit... that's what i do sometimes and it works likea charm.

i'd wait and go down to your local hardware store
and get a good quality torx bit
they are only a couple of dollars
but be careful if the bolts have been loctited on
mine stripped even with the right tool
i had to use a pair of vice grips to remove them then
and had to replace them with new ones
it may help to get a spare set of rotor bolts from your LBS
too as i never have had any luck removing them
keeping them in good enough condition
to reinstall them again
