i've been looking around for a new mostly freeride (with some downhill) bike
i think i have narrowed it down to either the
Ironhorse Sunday Team ($6100 RRP ) or 7 Point 5 ($5100 RRP)
I know the Sunday is a downhill bike
but is hell of alot lighter than the 7.5 freeride bike
something else to consider is that
i would be wanting to upgrade the forks, brakes
dual chainguide to single chainguide on the 7.5
heres a quick comparison between the 2 bikes
Sunday team 8" travel dw link frame - 7 point 5, 7" travel dw link frame
boxxer team forks 8" - boxxer ride forks 6"- 7" u-turn
hayes mag hydros 8" - hayes hfx 9 hydros 8"
e13 SRS chainguide - e13 DRS chainguide
WTB laserdisc DH rims & hubs - WTB superduty rims and hubs
5th element shock - 5th element 3 way shock
Any opinions on using the Sunday team as a Freeride bike
rather than the way heavier 7.5 ?
Seen any other complete freeride bikes worth looking at ?
(As much as i'd love one, please don't say get a vpp free instead
because frame only retails at $3920)

cheers

OK, so it is noticably more expensive...

Banshee Scream with Huck Two build kit @ $6,620

Granted, it is more freeride than DH, but the build kit is nice.

spec list is here:

Talk to your local dealer.

Mongoose's actually do look promising. 'Apparently' they ride very well and do have an awesome spec for the $$$.

i can get you a fully saint mongoose grand marquis freeride bike with a pro pedal rc rear shock for 2 grand. from a shop brand new. ie with warrenty and everything. comes with sherman flick forks as well. probably not what you where looking for but hey its about 1/3 the price of all the other bikes you have mentioned with a pretty bloody good build!!

The mongooses do have a awesome spec list for the price
and alot of people have even bought them to strip down
for build kits because they are very exceptionally priced.
But I believe their frames let them down.
I had a look at last years grand marqui with full saint/shermans
and this years black diamond triple with full sram/avid juicy 7's/boxxers
and was bedazzled by the spec but the frames do look very light on
If the frames looked a bit more heavier i probably
would buy another mongoose but you definitely
can't fault the build kit

i still have a bit of a soft spot for Mongoose
For the price the mongoose black diamond triple
is exceptionally well speced
What does anyone think about the frame though ?
Now that GT and Mongoose are uder the same roof
pacific brands the same designer of the GT i drive frames
designed the mongoose freedrive frame
any opinions ?
or just don't go there ?

it's a no brainer,

the Sunday Team is far better bike really than those mentioned here,

better forks, better shock, better brakes, probably better wheels,
lighter too.

Not much to complain about, unless your anti Sram like myself of course.. :P
ahahaha :D

have a good look around at what else is on offer too, but i think the Sunday Team is the go myself

thanks Juls,
you are right it is a no brainer, it is pretty obvious hey
just a way better deal all round as you wouldn't be able to upgrade
the 7.5 for the price difference between them
As for Sram, i'm not a big fan either but it works
sram parts, spares and customer service is a bit hard to come by though
Shimano is just so good to deal with for parts and spares
and customer service and the gear is really good too
The mongoose black diamond is also 100% Sram
rockshox, avid, truvativ
no shimano to be seen anywhere either
i might have to take that into consideration also

cheers

Yeh I think you'll be smart to choose the Sunday.

If your not happy with the sram,

hell it's only a shifter and derailuer.

Ask the shop to trade in the shifter and derailuer on a Deore or LX shifter and a XT Mech (older style, don't get rapid rise unless you like it)

Pretty much everything else should be sweet.
personally I'm not a hayes fan either, but I could live with Hayes Mag.

The ultimate would have a been a smartly selected XT/Saint groupset..
but alas many bike companys are moving away from the shimano bandwagon.

Why mess with something that works I reckon?
