Hey guys,
Was adjusting my 5th element air shock last night and was turning the rebound knob towards the - end. The stop for the knob didn't kick in and therefore the knob just fell out... a whole lot of liquid following it. Now it's not as easy as it sounds to just stick the knob back in and then turn it towad the + side, cause the knob won't go back in! :(
The shock still seems to be ok to ride on, it isnt leaking any fluids or air. I had a look on the progressive suspension website and it said the following:

"When reaching the minimum & maximum stops of the adjuster range, do not apply excessive force to continue turning the adjuster, or damage to the adjuster will occur that is not covered by the warranty".

This got me a bit scared, cause I really can't afford to purchase another one of these shocks at the moment!!!

I bought the shock (along with an 03 blur frame) 2nd hand. Therefore I can't take it back to the bikeshop it came from... even if I could the warranty is out by 1 year.

So is this problem fixable? Or am I just f*cked? Urgent help please!!!
Thanks,

- Michael -

I would suggest not riding on the shock and getting in contact with Hammo at Neezy in Brisbane as they are the 5th Element Distributors and workshop. You could also send an e-mail to TF Tuned in the UK with your question as he responds fairly quickly to questions.

mate,
they don't just fall out - come on you applied excessive force.
here's a good tip to everyone - DON'T FARKIN FORCE ANYTHING - IT WASN'T DESIGNED THAT WAY!!!
send it to hamo at neezy, po box 120 wilston, qld, 4051 for a service.
this will set you back about $100 and teach you a lesson.
it's probably due for a service anyway.

Well actually it did just fall off... and the stop didn't work toward the negative side. I know not to force anything and I never will.
And that's bs about sending it to hamo and neezy... I just took it over to my local bike shop and they fixed me up for $15 + it was fine. So , if I had taken your advice it would of set myself back $100 + postage and handling.
So yeah thanks anyway!

Mate, you are a peanut!!

The "whole lot of liquid" that came out is OIL

Oil is what the shock needs to actually work - air is the spring; oil is the damping

Your local bike shop DID NOT fix it.
Do you even realise how bad your bike must be working now?

Next time you fuck your shock, pull it out and bolt a stick in there - you won't know the difference!!!

Yep, that's exactly the sort of informative advice on offer that draws people to the friendly environment of Farkin.net.

Easy there, Tiger... maybe keep comments like this away form the public eye and just have a quiet chuckle to yourself if it's really that important for you to feel so superior.

Hmmm, might have been good to have a fuckwit like you spout shit back 7 months ago when he may have cared

Every single one of The Dude's and most of One-Nut's posts has been about 5th Elements or Santa Cruz, both of which are imported by Neezy. I think we can all see where they're coming from here...
