welcome,
i think we need a little more help in your post ie. dual suspension or a hardtail. for that price second hand looks the way to go, you will get more for your money second hand on here. just go into the trading area and complete bikes and just see if you find anything to your liking :)

im not after a dual suspension bike cos i dont like jumping them...
dunno waht a hardtail is  but im just after something for jumping trails.
i think i should get to know more about MTB before i buy something second hand... i dont want anybody to take advantage of my lack of knowledge :p

A hardtail has no rear suspension if that helps..
You should check out the Giant stp2 I think they retail at 999$ awesome for freeriding/ dirtjumpin etc..

anybody who makes statements like that is only advertising their lack of knowledge.

Haro make a single speed dirt jump/street bike for under $1000. Zero I think it's called. Although it's probably not much good for any other sort of riding.

Norco make some good freeride bikes, most of them though are probably a bit out of your price range, although you may be able to pick up a good 03 or 04 Sasquatch for around $1000. They are great bikes.

Hey,
What about a mongoose ritual? They're like $950 Brand New, and I've got a mate whos selling one rigid for something like $600 in awesome condition.
Here's a link http://mongoose.com/bikes/detail.php?id=258&brandLine=Pro_US&brandID=40
Good luck with your decision

yeh id go for a haro 8.1 cause i think they retail for about $1100 i have an 8.2, the frame is a chunky bastard and components are great.
Norco ryde for your price range or if you can scrape up a bit more $DOLLARS$ it would be worth looking at the norco 125!

mongoose rituall... note the forks... rst? they tend not to be very good in the freeride dpt. i would have thought..
i agree with the second hand idea btw... much better valoo...

firstly the kona stinky dee-lux is probably not a good idea for dirt jumping seing its a dual suspension.
secondly the 05 kona shred looks like a pretty good option for $900
I'd go an stp2 great price and once you get better at dirtjumping you can start to uprgade the parts

ok thanks......wasnt sure about the dually.

and i know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who has a sasquatch for $900............i dont know anything about it but thats good isnt it???

1 i hav an stp2 and they rock, the main downside is its an alloy frame so not as strong as cromo but a hell of alot lighter and ive ridden it for dj, street and a bit of trials, great for all but the exr's are a lil weird for dj (coz there shite).
125 i think they retail round 1400 there good to nice orange colour, but if your looking at the haro zero, RUN AWAY bad forks and not very much for the money, if your thinking of a 125 look at the stp1 as well.
i have no advise on kona coz ive neva ridden any of them.
Flynn
26-04-2005, 05:10 PM
dont think i would have got a zero anyway......
ummm....so now its either
-haro escape
-norco 125 (maybe $)
-stp
-or whatever comes up 2nd hand
i need the money soon eh :P
and my old bikes about shat itself too (im a little desperate) :o

i went into a bike shop yesterday and asked about the stp1 & stp2......
the guy said they arent really suited for what i want it for, he said after a while they would start falling apart.............is he right, or is he trying to stooge me into buying a specialized???>>>>>>>........
Grab a look at both of the latest issue mtb mags (aust).
I am sure there is a write up on 3 bikes for around a $1'000.

any of the stp series would be a pretty good begginers rig for dj/street in my opinion. but there are better bikes out there like the norco's which will take a lot more of a thrashing and are great value for money. the sassys are going for a measly $1300 at the local shop.
got a mate who used to ride an stp for downhill, and he rides pretty hard, but the stp was fucked in like 3 months. not from poor maintinace or anything suss, just cause there not really designed to take real big hits standard. thats just my two cents from what i seen of the stp's
