just my opinion but dont go an x-works, get 03 or 04 dorado dh and if they are 04 just buy a red sticker kit the x-works feel completly different and nowhere near as good IMO (i own 2003 dhs ;) )

I would sell my X-Works. They have been modded and feel awesome.
Not a chance in hell for $1000 though.
P.S. Stop bagging the X-Works maggots. They are fine once you get them fixed haha.

Good luck getting xworks that price.
Daver has some 2003 dorados for sale for $1200 i think. PM him
Im with lotec, SPV on front forks is a bad idea and that is why manitou are not making the xworks anymore.

Hence the modifications you can have done to soften the SPV effect.

Haha? You spent $4000 on forks and then had to get them fixed so they work half as good as the cheaper model? Pfft.

$4000. Feck no. Admittedly I wouldn't have bought them for the retail price. Glad I did end up with them though.
The forks were't as good as they should have been. I sent them away. They sent them back ($0). If you talk to them they are aware of the problem with the X-Works and rather than abandon everyone who bought them they fixed them.
There is nothing at all wrong with them now, in fact they are bloody good. I would recommend them for any serious racer.
You should try finding out details before opening your mouth or parroting some shit (Baa). Just because you may have heard some shit about something or got a first impression doesn't neccessarily mean that thats the way it is.
EDIT:
Sorry for the thread hijack Mitch I am just sick of people bagging what after a small change turned out to be a perfectly good set of forks(8" up the front lol).

Maybe you should check your facts.
The fix is just drilling a larger hole to let a little bit more oil flow back through the SPV so they feel a little plusher on small bumps
I have ridden SPV shermans (same shit) and TPC shermans and SPV feels shit mate. Totally insensitive to small bumps, even the new SPV evolve is crap. If they can't get it feeling right out of the box after 2 years of making them you know there is a problem.
Do you think there is a reason you can't buy the SPV dorados anymore, infact, it will never be made again. The only people who will ever own one are the few suckers who beleived the SPV hype and bought one.
Why is it that racers like Chris Korvarik are running the TPC dorado if the SPV dorado is so amazing??
Baa back at you. Lol :D .....

Actually they changed the SPV valve and put a split valve in there. I haven't pulled it apart yet so I couldn't tell you exactly what it was and I don't really care. it works well.
It actually doesn't give you much of an SPV effect.
I agree I'm not really saying SPV is great. I couldn't give a shit about SPV. I mean hey I sent my forks away and got them to more or less take it out. I'm just saying the forks work bloody well now for little hassle.

You mean like riding both types and talking to Manitou mechanics both here and OS? Because if that's not enough research, you're quite right.
When something costs $4000 RRP, regardless of how well you can get it to work, I expect it to come out of the box working brilliantly. The TPC models work far better IMO and cost $1000 less. But our tracks don't have as much pedalling so I can't see the benefit of the SPV system. Admittedly, they sprint much better on smooth surfaces than any other fork I've ever ridden. Just that's not what I ride for is all.

Has your forks still got the SPV adjustment?
I know the mod some people got was actually to replace the internals with a TPC damper.

Yeah It should have worked brilliantly. They know that which is why they fixed it.
Basically it's 8" with a light SPV action.
