you'll wanna be looking for reasonably obscure tunes, because there is sooo many bullshit/trick songs on the P2P networks.

DC++ is the ultimate downloading program :)

Ahhh bring back the days of good old CuteMX - anyone else remember it? Must have been back in 98-99.. Fast speeds, no cues, GREAT useable software.. Too bad they got scared off when Napster got sued! They still make programes like CuteFTP but nothing as sweet as CuteMX.

Is DC++ the one that gives you access to the actual folders on other people hard drives? I remember a program like that but cant remember its name.. You just choose which folder/s to make public. Would be good for my "whole CD" MP3 sharing thing except that P2P is always so slow!

Yes that's it. It's Direct Connect (www.neo-modus.com). DC++ is an enhanced version that lets you join multiple hubs.

piss off matt, i know YOU download songs and crap.. who was it who gave me jib? A FAKE, DOWNLOADED JIB?

besides, what about the CDs that can't be found anywhere because they're out of print and they've all been bought (eg. Zebrahead - playmate of the year)

I completely agree.. Fair enough to disagree with file sharing in general - but to ask for a thread about it to be closed is pretty farked..

true, but,... quiet.

the only reason I said KILL IT!! is because all of these threads have been deleted before, and yer.

as for downloading stuff, true, that was hypocritical but SHUT UP!!! hehe.

besides, as much as I disagree with illegal file sharing, I still indulge in it occasionally...

Limewire...my reason being, It's the best I've tried. I've had Morpheus, and Kazza, and back in the dark ages I even had Napster and then Audiogalaxy!

Most bands who aren't large enough to be signed to a major label and fill a stadium are actually in favour of file sharing/music downloading.
Royalties from record albums are an absolute pittance. by downloading, rather than buying a whole album you are probably ripping off the artist themselves around 12 cents. However the record company gets very shitty as they are the ones losing out big.
If an artist can fill out a bigger venue when they play because people downloaded thier music, they are probably going to wind up better off.

That said, I generally use music downloads to decide if I like a band enough to add them to my record collection.

Oh and not being able to find the CD is a lame ass excuse. If you can't try harder than HMV or Borders, you're not really trying.

As if I'm going to spend days/weeks searching numerous shops for a $30 cd when I could download the songs in half an hour.

If an artist can fill out a bigger venue when they play because people downloaded thier music, they are probably going to wind up better off. That's how I see it, I've downloaded a fair bit of music (alot legally too, I might add) and anyone that's half decent, I've winded up either buying their cd, or seeing them when they tour. Record companies are trying their best to force an ancient business system on increasingly technologically aware/competent consumers. Having record companies getting in bed with authorities is a scary thought, but it's something that's happening more and more... bye bye privacy, hello copyright enforcement
