I'll post a review when I get a decent run in. But so far they shit on anything else I've tried- so smooth. And the adjustments actually make a noticable difference. Can also feel the decreased weight.

Sorry J5ive, but there's just too much porn going on there. All you need is some amazingly sweet frame to match the spec!

If I find a reason too change the frame I will. :)

DHR with remote res DHX on sale at DH direct for just over $3200 is not good enough reason??? Man, that frame would be pimping with those specs :D

Had a ride of some 40's on the weekend. While they did feel good, my 02 monsters did feel alot plusher but im sure some twidling of the many knobs could make them feel ok.

I'll be waiting for the long term review in 6 months time to see if they hold up before i drop the dosh to buy some. Still worried about the sub 7pound wieght.

Well I have to justify these things. The 888 ride height was rediculous. So theres your excuse to upgrade. The frame just works for me- so I have no reason to change, though If I did the turner would be 'high' on the line for sure.

As for the weight. Its all oil. The 40 weights soo much less because of the sealed cartridge, not a lack of beef. A 888 has allot of weight in oil!

See what happens. They are pushing it as a freeride frame, but it looks just plain awsome. For now though, I'm broke. Well done DW :P

(6-8" in half inch increments with spacers, takes all of 5 minutes. Just have to find a quality 6point socket that doesnt round the heads of the top caps, they look rather soft. Though- All will be told in the review.

Well, no.

888's have 440ml of oil in total, only around 390grams.

Fox 40's have 40ml of lubrication oil in each leg plus whats in the damper. That would be at least 100ml in the cartridge, maybe more, say 150 (fox don't disclose this) so theres 230ml right there, around 200grams worth.

Not alot of differance really, 190 grams, 0.42 pounds, peanuts, you can save that by using an XC tube in the front instead of a DH tube. You could almost save that again using a 521 rim instead of an MTX.

Taking into account the fact the DH40 has a ti spring, chassis to chassis the fox is only slightly heavier, maybe 200 grams at the absolute most.

Considering the problems 888's had with leaking side walls, snapped arches and cracking axle pinch bolts i would be serioulsy worried about something alot bigger not weighing alot more.

I have had a look at the 40's at my local, the crowns are under built IMO, to thin, the bottom steerer should have at least 2 pinch bolts on each side not one, and jarrod graves cracking ones doesn't inspire me with confidence. I reckon to keep wieght down the legs are not that thick and the lowers are probably thin. This all means it will be alot easier to punture them in a good crash.

Its a race fork for sure, a light and stiff one at that, and probably rides nice once setup properly but im still not going to be convinced they are durable until they have been ridden for at least a year without any significant problems.

Umm, I think your e-speculating too much here mate.

The failures of 888s I've seen have all been from one of three things; stupidity, stacks or bad design.

The leaking sidewalls- design
Cracked arches- stacks
Snapped 20mm mounts- design combined with stupidity.

The 40s have a replacable insert for the 20mm bolts which can turn to compensate for the closing clamp (like a salsa seatpost clamp). Combined with a whole lot more material its going to be a hard one to fudge.

As for the crowns. I agree, the lower is a little concerning, but there is andincreased clamp area due to the 40mm uppers? Would this mean less force? They are also quite a bit wider (sideways). And I'm sure Dirtworks will look after its customers if this does becomes a problem. Though I would like to know where Jarad cracked his?

As for weights, I'll let you know when I pull the thing appart and compare it with the 888 :)

Well, this is an internet chat room after all :p

Yes, most of the stuff that happened is through design faults or people doing stupid things. Either way this is the exact reason i wouldn't drop $3g's on an unproven fork. Just look at the SPV dorado saga, bying anything 1st gen is always risky.

Jarrod cracked his crown smashing into a tree. Rider fault, yes, design fault, maybe. Should a crown snap when hit into a tree, i should hope not.

888 pinch bolt cracks had nothing to do with those replaceable tabs, thats to stop boxxer type thread stripping. 888 cracks were caused by a lack of material in the area making the magnesuim crack even when tightened to specification.

Really? Could have sworn there was only 1 on each side. The top and bottom crowns are almost the same thickness, the lower crown bolts must be uber close together

The ones in the shop at Glebe have 2 on each side one lower crown, its substantially bigger than most other crowns. I think those monsters just make everything else look small.

Oooh yeah very nice. Only problem is that the 40's makes your frame look rather umm "thin". Not much of a problem if you're happy with your "girth" but the 40's sure do look beef in comparison. Slick upgrade on an already impressive ride.
