soz if this sounds like a stupid question...but im getting frustrated at the amount of skewers i have bent and wrecked on my front QR hub. i recall someone mentioned Bolt up axles as a sturdier option...in what way do they work?...and can i run a bolt up axle on a standard QR hub? which runs a normal 9mm skewer (which is bent as hell :D )

thanx

You'll need a specific fork (20mm compatible) to be able to use it.Bolt up refers to the way it's put in. So you can literally bolt thething together old school style, not even any QR system at all, as isseen on alot of 12mm rear axles (say on the Giant DH series bikes andmany others).

The small skewer type QR axles just don't cut it anymore, they tend tobend pretty easily, but you just get used to it and keep using themanyway if you need too.

dunno if this is the correct thing, but cant you get the hubs with the old school type of bolt up axel? (like the ones you find on kmart bikes), the one where all it is, is basically a nut that screws onto the axel? hard to explain sorry if im not making any sense :P but i think i saw something like that set up on a QR manitou kingpin fork...

anyway just my 2c, dont take it 100% seriously as im not sure if its possible.

its just a 'through axel'.

much stronger... i had the same problem with my back wheel on my 4hun, it had a skewer in it and was getting bent etc, so i pulled the hub apart and but in a solid chromo 12mm bolt up axel - stiff as, strong as... But if its for your forks, you'll need a 20mm through axel specific fork...

yeah, thats what i did to my 4hun - its bassically a long bolt with opposing threads on each side...
