Ok,
I am changing to discs, and cant choose between these three wheelsets.
They are -
2005 Mavic CrossMax SL disc
King hubs with DT Aerolite spokes and DT XR4.1D rims
DT 240s hubs - Aerolite spokes and XR 4.1D rims
I have owned 2003 crossmax Sl 's in v brake form, I currently own DT 240s hubs, revolution spokes and xr4.1 rims. And i have owned but never ridden a king rear hub which was really quite nice (and comes in pimp colours  )
The crossmax and DT wheelsets both performed flawlessly over thousands of K's and have given me no reason not to choose either of them again, and as for the King hubs well, they are supposedly the best hubs available.
I was leaning towards the DT wheelset mainly because all parts are easily replaceable (like broken spokes, rims etc...) whereas with crossmax i only have 1 option, though i can t say this was ever a problem as durability was excellent from them.
So my main question is, which, out of the three mentioned wheelsets would you go for and why ? also like to here from any owners/users of King hubs
b there soon

I'd go with the kings, they are great hubs and sound good too. I ride 05 crossmax sl's at the moment and they are good to but i need tension in the spokes with i can't do with the max. Replacement parts are also very $$
ok... so I'm biased on this one.
I'll start by saying that I think that King hubs are sooooo cool and pimp. But... the 240s are very similar in weight to the King hubs, and noticably cheaper. Plus, if the complete w/set is built by Wheelcraft, it is considerably cheaper than buying the individual parts.
Here is another option on the hubs front... Hadley XC hubs. in a nice range of colours (sorry no weights as yet)

I own the full dt build you mentioned( 4.1 d rim, aerolite spokes,240s hubs)
They came pre built from wheel craft, which was an excellent build and it makes things easier and cheaper. They are exceptionally light ,look cool, and sound cool.
The only negative think is that with the bladed spokes, you need a special tool that holds the spoke while you tension the nipple or it will just twist and not tighten. The only reason i have needed to true them is because i ran too low a pressure on my first ride and dinged the rim up a little( entirely my fault ). This really is only a minor drawback though, otherwise i cant fault them and they are noticably faster than my non race wheelset( 4.1d rim, revolution spoke,xt hub)

Why are you going for areo spokes? What are the advantages over normal spokes?
If it was me i would build up hadley hubs with DT tripple butted spokes and mavic rims. To me hadley hubs are more desirable and will hold their value longer, and they are stupid easy to work on, pull part and maintain.
But failing that the 240's are good quality hubs. Im sure the DT rims are fine seeing everything else DT is top notch, so out of the three options go for the full DT build.

I currently have a full DT 240s wheelset on my ride but are rim brake only. They are great rims and hubs.
The reason for aero spokes - they really do make a difference and do spin alot faster and are stiffer than regular spokes from what ive felt and seen.
Im pretty sure im gonna go with the crossmax's as i just had a call from a friend who is getting a new rig with them on it and he has offered to sell them to me for $950 which is a bloody good deal seeing as i paid $just a hair under $1500 for my v brake pair couple o years back !, and use his current crossmax SL's on his new rig.
I also didnt think about hadley's. I know they are nice hubs as i had one on my dh bike not long ago, but i wasnt aware they made a xc version ? what is their weight etc... ? Any further info would be great

Hadleys only make one set of hubs, but it is the internals that are differant. Thats good becasue it means you can change the hubs from qr to 10mm bolt up to 12mm thru axle easy as pie. Probably not a big deal to you but it helps if you ever want to sell them as more people could use them. As for wieghts.....
Chris king iso qr disk rear 309 grams
Hugi 240 qr disk rear 269 grams
Hugi FR qr disc rear 370 grams
Hadley qr disc rear 360 grams
Hope qr XC disc rear 386 grams
So if your going for pure wieght weenie then the 240's are the way to go.

If you are a smooth rider have a look at American Classic. Nice and light, though alot of that comes from light hubs, and you can order them with CXRay spokes.
**Edit - I know they weren't in the poll just offering up another option.**
Why are you going for areo spokes? What are the advantages over normal spokes?
AeroLite spokes are the strongest and lightest spokes that DT manufacture.
Normal butted spokes are forged (cold worked) for strength.
AeroLite spokes are forged into a 14-15-14 double butted spoke to start with. Then the 15g centre section is then cold worked again into the semi-aero final shape.
This "double cold working" of the material dramatically increases the spokes fatigue life and strength.
oh... and the Hadley XC hubs mentioned:
a) are not the same as the DH hubs. They are a totally different unit that is much lighter then 360g. (might be a new model, don't know... we haven't had Hadley XC before) The only axle options for them are QR and 10mm bolt up.
b) will be here in the next few weeks.

why not look at the new stans rims. They are super light weight at 355gms, especially compared to the dt rims which are 425gms.

Hmmm..... Hadley XC hubs. Must be a new model as hadley only make the one hub currently. Should be interesting to see them. Learn something new everyday :)
Anybody know anything about the DT free ride rim. Looks very close to a mavic 321.

Do you know if they are coming out with a tubless DH rim anytime soon? Something like the mavic ex823?

As far a I know (and the guys that are visiting may know more by now) they have no plans to release a typical UST style rim.
