Received this e-mail from Huw Kingston today thought it should be listed for riders using the track.

"To confirm our conversation of today regarding Mountain Bike access to the
Six Foot Track, the long held agreement (5 years) when last arranged with
the Mountain Bike fraternity was for :-
- No bikes on the track from the Explorers Tree to the Megalong
Valley Road.
- Limited access on the track between the Megalong Valley Road and
Cox's River Camping Ground. This is restricted to the formed road and fire
trail in the main. Areas of steep grade and multiple steps (in this region)
require the rider to dismount and carry the bike. There is no access to the
swing bridge or the single line track connecting the bridge to the camping
ground on the western side of the river. It was agreed that riders would
stay on the original alignment of the track through to the river on the
eastern side and then carry their bikes across. Please note that this area
is highly sensitive granite country.
- There are no restrictions for bikes on the track between Cox's
River Camping Ground and Black Range Camping Ground and continuing along the re alignment of the track to the Jenolan Caves Road.
- It is unlikely that riders would want to continue onto the Caves
from the western side of Jenolan Caves Road along the track.

Due to the continuing abuse of this agreed process by bike riders and the
ever increasing costs associated with the repair of the track from the
unscrupulous riders this agreement is becoming very tenuous from a
management point of view.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this issue (once again) with
mountain bike stakeholders so as to reach agreement on appropriate use of
the track for mountain bike riders, to minimise our costs associated with
the ongoing repairs required and to minimise the numerous complaints
received from adjoining land holders and other users of the track.

Any assistance you can provide in this regard would be appreciated.

Mountain Bike Groups are getting on very well with Lands, Hunter is making a bike park at XC and DH at AWABA, CCMTB is looking at another track at Ourimbah, please lets play by the rules so Lands do not get off side and we have National Parks taking over.

Bugger! Being a long time walker of the track, I've seen the damage. But it's also one of the nest rides close to Sydney for the mountain biker inside me.

Dillemma!!

Where does your average Joe find this information? When I was planning the ride and did a bit of Googling to plan it I didn't see any of this. Maybe if it were slightly more publicised this wouldn't be an issue?

I got that email yesterday as well and was going to post it here, but it looks like there is no need.

I can only speak about the HMBA talks on awaba, but as has been stated Dept of Lands and State Forests are very keen to do the right thing by us, so lets not stuff it up by riding a few closed lines. One other alternative floating around for the land at awaba is that the NPWS take it on, and we certainly don't want that from a riding perspective.

If your out there (anywhere) riding land that is not yours, respect the rules pu in place by the owner/manager, because your decisions may have long term implications for all of us, even in different locations.

A bit hard to comply to rules your don't know exist.

I think that's the biggest issue here. Our club is probably clostest to the area in question and this is the first I've heard of any conditions.

If people know there is an issue they generally try to help out.

It would be far to easy to call some work days to improve the bits of track that are causing concern then put up some sign to let people know whats expected of them.
