1 in 6 American children live BELOW the poverty line whilst others buy technology in an offhand way.......if communism is starvation for equality, capitalism is surely selling your soul for faux-contentment.
I can't believe it, the way you look sometimes
Like a trampled flag on a city street, oh yeah
And I don't want it, the things you're offering me
Symbolized bar code, quick ID, oh yeah
Cuz I'm a 21st century digital boy
I don't know how to live but I've got a lot of toys
My daddy's a lazy middle class intellectual
My mommy's on valium, so ineffectual
Ain't life a mystery?
I can't explain it, the things you're saying to me
It's going yayayayayayaya, oh yeah
Cuz I'm a 21st century digital boy
I don't know how to read but I've got a lot of toys
My daddy's a lazy middle class intellectual
My mommy's on valium, so ineffectual
Ain't life a mystery?
Tried to tell you about no control
But now I really don't know
And then you told me how bad you had to suffer
Is that really all you have to offer?
Cuz I'm a 21st century digital boy

You'd be fucked 2 ways:
1. Getting $200 in one dollar coins and inserting them one by one.
2. When the little spirals don't spin far enough to let it fall into the collection area.
Is it just me, or wouldn't you just walk up the that thing, smash the glass, flog the iPods on ebay and make a quick thousand bucks. Shit, it beats pointing a gun in someones face.

Goddam ma nizzle, that microsoft izzle program-dizzle should be ranamed mircrosoft-izzle WERD-shizzle my dawg!!
Damn johnny!! You ruined my un-happy reality.
Anyways, I plan on using my flatmates 1g iPod shuffle for a while to see how it goes since my 128mb battery leaked battery acid all over its insides and now doesn't work.
The shuffles are solid state, USB flash compatible, very light and I don't think not knowing what song to play should be any real big issue since I will only upload songs I like onto it. sa-weeeeeet. Ntm mention they're relatively cheap.
Any thoughts?

Yes, you could probably do better, especially for the price.
The player i've got atm is 512, $200, decent sound quality, and a nice 1.5" screen which displays a simple file/folder system. Unless the technological limitations of the shuffle specifically appeal to you (and I could understand how they could), then a screen displaying the song title and artist is pretty imperative IMO. I also find it hard to accept that you could upload 1gb of songs, each one something that would satisfy you at any given moment throughout the day.
Although, I am someone who really likes to choose my songs, I will always make half hour or so playlists when i'm listening on the computer.
Check out ebay for good prices, but it can be a bit of pot luck buying unheard of brands which you can't research effectively.

the IMG code is included in the character count.
i think it was more the "what the fuck did you put this picture up here for?" factor rather than the character limit. in fact i think the character limit was only to make HIS post meet the charactr limit

this says a bit more about it. (hopefully the link works)
Jee i should tell my uncle. He has tones of vending machines. I get sick and tired of him telling me how much he has taken from all of his machines.

Having done a bit of research, I think I'm in love with another MP3 player.
Lexar 512mb LDP-800.
link: http://www.dapreview.net/comment.php?comment.news.1055
It's good becuase I can integrate the SD cards I already use for my dSLR to store some more music on. Only problem is, I cannot seem to find them anywhere in AUS.
NAZ!! I need your help! :P

Its so good they're out of stock!! $225 is great value for the specs.. I like memory expandability and FM transmitter. It also comes with Sennheiser buds.

Aargh, just remembered my camera takes Comapct Flash cards not SD. And at the moment I can't seem to find any mp3 player that has all those capabilities and a CF slot.
So it looks like the 1gig solid state shuffle would be pretty good. Since I also found out you can have it on chronological play, ie: play the songs from 1-?? in the order you uploaded them to the memory + 18hrs battery life is really nice.
Time to go into the apple store at uni and cough up some coin me thinks.

ipod shuffles are awesome. I think that not having a screen is actually better on a player this size, if it only holds 120-240 songs, then people are gonna put on their fav songs and know them off by heart. Plus keeps cost down and looks better/less chunky without the screen on something that size. i was thinking of getting one for sport specifically but i figured i like the sounds of nature better, save the ipod for the bus etc.

Oh no, dont get me started on this.
Apple: "Lets market a product towards people who have no idea what music they want to hear, and want us to chose what plays when! We can even control the software!!"
Customers: "Sik itz a apple, buy, buy, buy." Takes Ipod shuffle home, thinks about product, wants to get money back. Fuck it this thing is sexy, lets just keep it and pretend we love it.

Care to fully explain your hatred??
pros:
light - i do alot of hiking and am a weight weenie about my pack and equipment. Music helps pass those long slog segemnts.
small - slides into my backpack pocket perfectly
easily navigatable - 5 buttons. easy. screen wont chew up batteries.
1gig solid state - and how many others offer this at such a good price?
USB flash card - Can store files on it.
cheap - $200 for uni students like me. That's pretty nice in my books.
battery life - 18hrs is pretty fucken good.
accessories - I know it sounds lame, but I can pick up an additional battery pack thingy for it if I need to.
cons:
apple stigma - apple is for l4me-0 l00zers. But I do most of my work on a Mac, so having an easily compatable (read: no usb cord) to plug into the compy to save work at uni is great for me.
no screen - but I kept my old mp3 player in my pocket and never used the screen anyway. But now have x4 the amount of music.
iTunes - havn't used it much before, but it integrates well with the uni computers.
So that's my reasoning. let's here yours.
Care to fully explain your hatred??...
So that's my reasoning. let's here yours.
exactly. i don't understand why people hate ipods, do you have something against consumerism and consumer sovreignty. it appears that most people that hate ipods do so only because they have nothing else to hate, lets direct our anger at something that most people like? please tell me why they are so bad. The ipod is the most popular player because people like it.

No, I dont hate the Ipod because I have nothing else to hate. This debate could go on forever, and I'm sure its been covered.
Main reasons:
- Apple pretend they are user friendly, when in fact they are the opposite. They refuse to broadly license the software that allows the Ipod to work to 3rd parties, thus cornering the market and giving them a captive audience for advertising through I-Tunes. Proprietary software and hardware is a thing of the past.
- Charging people close to $200 for a new battery to be fit. WTF? I know its been changed now, but its a sign of their respect for consumers.
- Price fixing. Ever tried to bargain for a price on an IPod? Just doesnt happen, thanks to Apples stubborness yet again.
IPods are cool for the same reason it was cool to wear Air Jordans back in the 80's.

so lets see......they use a program that can be used on pretty much ALL computers.......this is good its compatible on all platforms. wow you have to use fairly user friendly program to upload your music. get over it. OHHHH NOESSSS!!!!11ONE!!!! advertising.......woopdie do. its their program for their system. as far as i know batteries are heaps cheaper than this cant really comment on that one. and price fixing. pffttt my ass. its their product they can charge as they wish. once one retalier is allowed to bargain word will get out and you will get all sorts of prices being offered everywhere and inter apple store rivalry. which can be avoided by offereing them at a set price. get over it. they are a good system for the price, you can use a single program which is pretty easy to use and can be used on either macs or normal computers and you stop inter store rivalry which saves apple money. get over it.

I dont know of any mp3 players that only work on specific platforms so your argument is stupid. Oh, except of course the Ipod which only worked on Apples when it 1st came out
as far as i know batteries are heaps cheaper than this
Apple have once again attempted to back their users into a corner by making the IPod non user-serviceable. Fair enough, but charging stupid amounts of money for this is just childish. And it was close to $200 from memory.

Yep, its called a free market economy.
