hey everyone

now ive been trying to master the abubaca for a while now... but most of the time it a.) looks really stupid and messy or b.) just dosent work at all

are there any hints or tips you guys can provide to help pull it off?

is it just hopping with your rear wheel hitting the edge first and shifting the weight back? all while jamming on the rear brakes?

one of my problems is with the hop, like how u see some of the trials guys just sorta kick the pedals and they hop forward..

cheers for any advice :)

Hey ive been told by bike mechanics and of that sort that if you have disc brakes and attemp to hop on your rear wheel with your brakes then A) You will destroy your frame. Your rear brake mount is likely to snap off. Simply because when you are hopping the rotation of the wheel is in the opposite direction which means that your brake mounts are being PULLED away from your frame. Normally when you brake, the force of the caliper goes TOWARDS the frame. So bottom line is don't do it if you have disc brakes. (no pro trials rider use disc brakes, and you will find it very hard to find a trials frame with disc brakes mounts.)

B) there isnt any, i dont know how to do that trick, but wen i was seen hopping on my rig i was politely told the consequences of my actions  So take care of your FRAME!!!!!! :D

Abubaca's on disc brakes are fine, unless your riding only trials, then a rear disc is fine for street (which is what an abubaca is under yeah? well.. obviously its a street bmx trick but yeah...) If you snap your disc mounts abubaca'ing then i will be bloody suprised! (and if your that worried about it, call grip and get some gussets:p )

When i was first trying and faililng, my friends kept telling me that i needed to lean back more, which supprisingly enough, after a while, sunk in, i started to lean back, and started getting them.

My main point is: LEAN BACK, and dont jump off, you will have a tendancy to jump off the rear at first because all of your weight off balance, but just stay on.

Also, i find it easier, if i manual about 2/3 metres before it, because this gets my weight all the way back, so you dont have to make such a large shift of weight in the air.

Hope i could help.
Ben.

Keep your eyes on the ledge where you want the rear wheel to land. It sounds wierd but as the wheel lands on the ledge, I try to put my arse right down where the wheel landed. Obviously, the tyre is in the way but when you do this your weight is really low (easy to balance) and you're crouched ready to spring back off the ledge. Make sure your front wheel doesn't catch the ledge and then fakie out with style.

when i do mine, i just tend to lean back but have the bike forward heaps over the co pin and then balance and then you just hop back in and then depending on how big the bowl or ramp is that your doing it on, i just give my brakes a bit of a tap on the way down and then you just pivot and your done.

Anyone got any tips for when doin one on a ledge on flat ground how to get enough speed on the hop off to spin around from fakie?
I try and tap my front wheel on the ledge to give me some backwards speed but that doesnt work all too well.
This is what Im mostly doin them on, can somone be critical and tell me what Im doin wrong
cheers

try landing back wheel first without the brakes on puklling a little fakie manual, this will give you a little bit of speed to roll back and hopefully turn around. It has worked for me

just hop and lean back and then balance then fall back to fakie and revert out

ever tryed doing that on a rail?

- An abubaca is simply stalling the rear wheel on the edge of an object and hopping back off.

1 - Approach the object with moderate or slow speed depending on your comfort level. Hop as needed and brake as soon as you get your rear wheel off the ground. it helps to use only one finger.

2- Land the rear wheel on the ledge or whatever the object is with your back wheel and get your butt behind the seat to counter balance your weight. This will keep the front end up and keep the weight on the back wheel. Stall for just a second and keep your balance for as long as you can.

3 - When your ready to dismount, hop backwards by pulling all your weight back and pumping. Try not to hit your front wheel(or if your special just tap your front wheel on the object so ur wheels land evenly, looks trick) on the ledge and bring the rear end of the bike back out and underneath you.

4 - When you land, don't forget to back pedal and feather your brake. You can role back as long as you want backwards or you can stall on your rear tire and continue from there.

ur riding a shit bike, when stalling let urself fall more backwards then hop, ull find the later u hold, the more speed ull end up having.

Dave, what days are you off uni this week? Im off school Tues and Thurs... see if you can come down this way and ride rockingham with us. After trying abubacas for months, i finally pulled my first one off saturday arvo... and trust me i've tried so many different styles it sucks! my hardest component is turning around once i'm going backwards (quater pipe coping abubacas....)

my first ababuca. got a new stem and bars on the evil. pulled my first clean ababuca on the kicker on the first jump at liverpool bmx track. funny thing is, after your first one they are super easy. (relatively) next is fafafanu? you know, where you re enter front wheel first. that steps it up. any tips?

Now try doing one on a ledge/rail/park bench etc.

It's a fair bit harder when you have to get the rear wheel in the right spot. Then it's time for fufanus I reckon.
