G'day
Sooner or later when my bike is fixed I plan on doing for 4x racing and I was really after some good tips and advice besides practising as I will be doing anyway!
So if you have some tips or advice please type away!
I'll be on a dirt jump frame with 5 inches of travell if that helps at all..

Never try to pass above someone in a berm, because it always ends in carnage.

Try not to land on top of anyone on jumps. I have seen it happen. I havnt raced but watched and hopefully will race in future.

Picking the right line is more important than outright speed.

Do whatever it takes to be first into the first corner, within the rules of course.... Which means practise your gate starts.

Pretty much my tips are:
Keep the wheels on the ground when possible
Manual into stuff
Be creative with passing
Jump only what HAS to be jumped
Pedal hard as
Keep a high constant speed, rolling along, dont be a hack and lose it then pedal hard and lose it, keep the speed up
Pump through everything
Hope that helps anyway!

Practice every possible line on the course, because in racing you never know where you will end up when things get messy (and they will).
And the most important in 4x if someones in front of you going into that corner, Take them out!

Hook up with your local BMX club and practise gates. If youre in front after the first corner it makes things so much easier. The BMX guys will show you fast and block lines through corners. Then just practise.
