ok here is my vision: to post up a thread in which people teach the noobies to bike riding (like myself) how to properly take care of their bikes. from the searches I have done i cant see any threads on this...essentially it is to be people sharing their handy hints so we dont end up with kiddies (like myself) riding round on a bike which is not properly taken care of! DO IT FOR THE BIKES.....or yeh

It's actually the opposite. More maintenance than repairs.

Yeh i am doing a subject at school on bike maintenance and riding during school. The only bad thing is really based on road. I am trying to con the teacher to go out in the bush at least.
I have a bike maintenance book thats helps even thought its like 10 years old and the DH bike dont even have discs.

Use the best chain and chain lube you can get your hands on and clean it regularly.

I run a Wipperman 908 chain and Rock and Roll Gold chain lube on my DH bike and XC bike. After every ride simply wipe the chain down with a cloth, and reapply lube once a month or after every wash.

This gives me complete confidence in my drivetrain and is ridiculously simple to do.
