Aswell as being a bikerider i also enjoy bodyboarding. Living on the Northern beaches we have some quality bike trails but we also have some excellent beaches. If you havent tried bodyboarding it its awesome fun and if you get put deep into a barrel it compares to getting launched at your local jumps or flying down a hill at top speed. To end this i say GIVE IT A GO.

Yeh i'm a booger. Where do you usually surf?? what board do you ride?
Me im usually at curly,dy point or longy and i ride a NMD player pro
How do you actually bodyboard? I've only surfed before, if it's anything like surfing then it would be absolutely madcore!! For me surfing was the best thing i discovered since mtbing. Pity i live 300km from a beach.

I rode a bodyboard long before i started riding, been doing it for twelve or so years now, competed when i was young but the comps got held it crappy conditions. I mainly dropknee now as i have a back problem. I ride a NMD Base or NMD Custom DK. Whether it be bodyboarding or surfing they're are both great sports and i would recommend them to anyone.

It's been a long time since I've done it, but I do like to hang out at the beach and either surf or bodyboard. Since I live in Southern California, we don't have the best waves in the world, but it's still fun...

Vish, I remember you once even suggested i join a club and check out the local comps... hahaha we could have even kicked Lackey's arse back then...
i used to bodyboard ... then i started downhillin'.
Now i have pasty white skin, cuts and scratches over my pasty legs, my car now stinks of smelly pads instead of wet towels, i have had the same two bodyboards for the past two years or more, i used to get (need) a new one every 3-4 months, i bought a house as close to the beach as i could afford, now i drive out to the bush every weekend... and the list could go on.
I still love the oceans and riding waves. Just got a bike buzz going on atm. The Gold Coast has great waves but the crowds ruined surfing for me. Took the fun out of it too much. I love dropknee, shit i want to go surfing again, real bad now.
Think i might order a new board this week... mmmm 44inch dk beast... yep gotta do it.

bodyboarding is mad fun, every year i go to pambula beach on the southern NSW coast for a chrissy holiday. the surf there is usually really good and the beaches are the nicest i've seen. i used to just have a shitty target board but the other year i got a Morey ben player signiture for like, a quarter of the normal price and it makes it so much more fun!
i love going out in the really rough surf and trying to drop in on the biggest wave i can and just get blasted.. its unreal getting dumped because it doesnt hurt anywhere near as much as if you come off a bike!

I am in a similar position.
I began BB when i was about 10, & competing from about 13. I lived & breathed BB all through school, my day consisted of an early before school, go to roll call, skip school to go surfing, go back for arvo roll call then surf till it got dark.
I joined Tamarama BB club & made it throough to the the Nationals when I was 16. I have competed against bbers such as Bullet, Ross Hawke, Nugget, Luke Gallagher, Matt lohmair, Dave Abbleby & Marcus Levy. I grew up surfing with Beau Day, Joe Byrnes, Jose Maquinas, Cory Oliver & all the tamarama grommies (to me) that are in riptide now. I stopped surfing for a few years after I 'discovered' drugs, sex & alcohol.
I still get the board out if the surf is good, but usually only in summer as I don't have a wetsuit. I still enjoy it, but not as much as I used to. There are too many people in the city beaches & too many days between good waves.
But you when Macca's is cranking on a 6-8' southerly swell I will be there :D

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIII HAAAAAAA!!!! I can't wait to go to the Gold Coast maybe on the weekend.....If this damn weather fines up. My older brother the lucky bastard lives there for uni and goes swimming there everyday. I'll probably catch the train down from brissy with some hotties coz I don't have a car. Body boarding is mad fun I remember when I was younger I got dumped by a wave and got winded sooo bad when the board was jammed between my stomach and the sand I couldn't breathe for what felt like ages. But it doesn't matter coz I hadda little accident...nothing to serious.....

damn. it always sucks to lose something youve had for ages. the best pair of flippers i have found is- for a mixture of comfort and power some clones will do the job but for just all out power you cant beat redleys.
ok callum u havent used your virtue yet, shut your mouth you cant be loving it, secondly, body boarding rocks! yew!!!!! i personally i have a 4 yr old crappy manta and i often surf macmasters (on hols), curly or freshie!!! Body boarding and riding rock, barrels and jumps give me my adrenalin!

I used to bodyboard a lot... not much these days though.
Silly really, Avalon/Bilgola/Newport are only about a 15min walk down the hill.
Dad was (and still is) surf patrol at Av - so I'd be out all day on weekends, usually south end (not LA, I wasn't quite up for jumping in off the rocks).
A few guys I played soccer with were out most of the time too.
Used to be a great right hander off the side of the pool - too much sand has washed away now though, the rocks interfere with the current.
Other than that it was always Manly, North Narra, Freshy, or up north at Christmas to Bonny Hills and Rainbow Beach.
My old Manta Eppo 40 is too light for me now, so I pinch dad's board...

funny thing is, my brothers big pete. i got him into riding he got me into body boarding, pete you still have that $300 bodyboard in the garage. i have a $200(not 300 pete) lmnop flow. its great for making drops. in summer i go bodyboarding, riding in winter. i usually go 2 manly point, freshy, south curly bowls, dy point, dy and colloroy. one time with a mate we went 2 cronulla 2 watch shark island and surf north nulla. shark island was hectic, 4 ft, low tide but the surge wasn't make able. last holidays i went 2 rainbow beach/bonny hills and stayed at rainbow beach caravan park. stuff got nicked from out balcanies but we got it back. the last day (out of 3) we went 2 rainbow and there was perfect barreling peaks. ill put a pic on later. the rivermouth was an oppotunity 2 make a flow rider...........which didnt work :( we sat on the beaches watching whales, it was great!
If any1 wants to go on a bodyboard/bike holiday, go straight to anna bay, port stephens. where we stay is an all right beach with hammer head. then around the corner anna bay reef with some bike jumps next to it, good fun. and if ur a moto x rider there are sand dunes and a beach over 30 k's long which should keep you amused, yeah.........

ive been riding bb since i was 5, now i'm 17 and the bike has really taken over from the lid.
i remember the days when me and dad lived only to ride our boards, i wasted so many school hours looking out the window to port phillip bay wishing it wasnt a pond.
:D best BB experience= this year, easter holidays, in Byron Bay (i live in melb was up there for the east coast blues and roots festival it abso-fuken-lutely- rocks) for 4 days my dream waves were reality and flowed in all morning and afternoon. so i had orgasmic waves, music, chicks, location, weather, and even saw a round of the QLD sunshine series DH. :D :D
dare i say that the right wave ride on a BB may be better than a sweet DH track on an intense M3? maybee
rock on the body board :D

oh dude, damn.... shit, that's somewhat touching.
My BB has been gathering too much dust the past couple of years (since MTB's stepped into the scene) but hey i would probably agree that the right wave is fricken amazing in comparrison to an amazing dh track/run. Probably the fact that you can't always just paddle out and get another like you can drive back to the top oif the hill and bomb it again and again.
Luckily i live on the Goldie and a stones throw from the beach (well a kinda long throw), and i am gonna stop doing one or the other sports and just do them both, on the same day if i want to. Yes, i love bodyboarding, i just forget it sometimes.

my point exactly :)
my plans for after uni= move to Apollo bay victoria (its a smallish town on the great ocean road) buy a pimpin shack on a big property just at the back of town where thoes huge (!!!!!!!!!!!!) hills are and get Dh bike, motorbike (road and trailie) and a new body board.
ill rip up the property and local trails on the dirt bike (xr250R), tackle the great ocean on the road bike (gsxr1000), build a DH/Freeride track for the intense M3, rip up the skate park on my current stp zero and take the body board to the beach with the sandman panell van to hook up with some knarly waves and chicks :p :D !

this thread had me talking to my two of my mates at school today all lunch time aout Body boarding and Byron bay, we got so worked up. the worst part was when the bell went while we were lying on the oval reminising of our best waves and we all had sacks to go to and port phillip bay was 200m away, flat as ever. some one free me :p

I agree techs arent very comfortable but at the shop they only had techs in wide fittings (I have fat feet) so thats what I got. The good news is in the water they eventually feel looser, or is that my feet going numb.....
