I doubt a piercing in your lip would get caught in anything, what with the huge amount of chin space in MTB fullfaces. Ear piercing should be OK, just be careful when you take the helmet off/put it on!

best bet is to hold your ear lobes in with your thumbs as you lift of the helmet

Theres also the problem of sweat and dirt getting in them, and the peircing getting infected. Make sure you wait until it's not at risk of infection anymore. what isit like 6 weeks or months?

bit of medical tape over the ear peircings to cover them from the full face adn to stop dirt?

sounds like the best way too me..

and i thought this was about putting metal ear spikes in the visor of the FF :( - i want to do it, but its illegal for racing...

infection wont be a problem if you clean them after riding with salt water

They shouldn't be a problem until you start to get a little lazy and 'forget' theyre there. My eyebrow barbell is fine 99% of the time. I just have to remember to be careful every time i take my full face and goggles off (ie. removing the goggles before just ripping my helmet off). You might also find this trend of being cautious creeping into more normal things like getting dressed/undressed (two words: button holes).

piercings look cool....

haha joking :P I had a ear piercing which was fine with a fullface on except just taking it off you had to put your thumb over it and slide it off..

I think you mean 'Gutentag'!!

And i never had a problem with facial piercings while i rode motorbikes, only ever had a problem with one ear piercing that was a bit too high.
Just make sure you get them done at a reputable piercer and dont try and skimp on jewellery costs.

I got mine ripped out with my fullface, I had one of those black ones made out of some special metal so i was kinda pissed but if you dont go ripping your helmet off fast it should be all good.

Ok being something of a piercing enthusiast, I feel I can offer some advice. Having had multiple eyebrow piercings, stretched and dermally punched ears, a lip and cartilage work, I have had minimal problems with full face helmets, provided you're careful.
Same as every other daily activity really once you start shoving metal through your face.

Haven't had a problem with my industrial helix really... just be careful taking the helmet on on off and hope you don't shove the side of your head into a tree at speed! Ouch.

ummmm so how did this happen? you managed to rip your lip piercing out while taking off your full face? WOAH. it must of been close to the tip of your lip. i probably wouldnt get a spike on the outside of my lip. way to much chance of getting it caught on stuff there.

I have 17mm holes in my ears, an a labret piercing. I had heaps of trouble when I had chainring bolts in my ears, because the lip wasn't very big, they would pull out and I wouldn't notice. I reckon I lost about a dozen bolts...

I would watch for infections, especially, when they are still new...

Yeah I don't want to go over board on the piercings like some...(arete), those photos of you about six months back with the back stretching piercing was off.. :p
All I'd really want to do is get both my lobes done with a silver studs and under the bottom left side of my lip done with another silver stud..
My mates has said she will do my ears.. I will scream like a little girl :)
Does anyone know if I were to get my lip done if I took out the piercing and put water or some fluid in my mouth would I be able to squirt it out the piercing that would be soooo cool !! ??
Cheers for all your replies
Pete

also, dont forget if you hav ea big off, and require surgery, they wil pull all of your piercings out. My earring hole almost closed up after two weeks in hospital from my big crash. Also, they removedmy flatmates nose stud when he went in for surgery, and it closed as well.

They won't take them out if you tell them who's boss!

I had surgery a couple of weeks ago and they didn't take my piercing out. Just put some tape over it. I guess it depends where the piercing is and where they'r operating.
They probably need to take any oral and nasal piercings out so they can shove the tubes down your throat to keep you breathing...

ive considered getting a new bar for my eyebrow with spikes but the simple ball ended bar has its advantages. i dont even think about it anymore when im getting changed and what not, it rarely gets caught on stuff and it can take a fair yank without me feeling it.

i think the only problem you're going to have with a full face etc is if you want spikey piercings. if you still wanted to go down that path id probably wear a simple (ie ball ended if it were an eyebrow) one until it heals, then go for the spikey one and then depending on how often you go riding (dont want to be changing it too often) you could swap the ball ended one to make Fullface use a bit easier.

Bahahah! Should turn into "The Piercing Thread" ;)

I've had trouble mainly with my Stretchies... running both a 12mm and 8mm in the same ear... and getting a FF on and off without ripping them out. I couldnt even run a normal helmet when i had a piece of pen in my top one for a while, because the straps would move it around. My lip piercing lasted a day before mum came home from work, and chased me around the house attempting to rip the big safety pin out lol. Another mate had 24mm stretchies and he actuall had to pull them down so they sat below the FF helmet... also he stretched one to 52mm before it snapped! It looked F***ed up, having a short and a long earlobe so he put an elastic band round one, and 2 weeks later is still waiting for it to drop off! Festy. But we also put soo many piercings in his face it isnt funny, i remember he put a spoke from one cheek to the other and screwed an anodised nipple on the other end. Lucky it wasnt a DT Prolock lol.

Ahh... the world of piercings. You can do anything with a safety pin and a bottle of metho... and i mean ANYTHING. Whoops... too much info....
*Oh and the chainring bolts in the ear idea? Its brilliant. I used Anodised gold ones... and theyre cheaper than $25 a pop for proper ones! How did everyone else do their stretchies? I used random items like pens, paintbrushes and golf tees....

What about piercings located say a little lower lower say getting caught on ya trousers or ya seat...haha Any suggestions?

I'm going to interject and say that doing stuff with a bottle of metho and a safety pin is only a great idea if you like hepatitus...and 52mm is big... most people can't go that far without the tissue becoming necrotic and their ear going ass unless they take a long long time for it.

I had my ears scalpelled to 8mm then used teflon tape(PFTE is biocompatible) around my jewelry to take it to 16mm. just a layer every few days around the jewelry until your at where you want or your ears need a break.

If you decide to do it be sure you want it for good (they may or may not shrink) and take your time unless you want your ear to end up looking like a cat's ass or worse.

I've never ever had an issue with a helmet and my lobes, though during the healing of my dermal punches any pressure on my ear sucked. my lip never ever comse close to the front of my helmet. My multiple brow project hit and caught on everything. Brow piercings are the devil.

I'm told ergonomic saddles with a willy saver split are the go for below the belt piercings. ;)

On a side note I just threw hooks at a suspension meet on the weekend but unfortunately didn't get time to go up myself this time. It was still awesome.
