View Full Version : Anyone got the WILDSIDE 2003 MTB VIDEO ?
I'm thinking of competing in Wildside 2006, so I'm after any tips, reviews and advice I can find.
I saw the 2003 Video advertised on Phantom cycles, does anyone have it ? is it good ? do you want to sell it or maybe trade ?

I'm surprised there are not homepages all over the net with people's personal reviews of their experiences at wildside, but all I can find is a few random pics, and links to the official site.
I'm sure some members here would have competed.
Last bump for this thread :)

Wildside is fantastic, although I'm glad that I missed it this year, the conditions on the first day were horrific.
The bad things about the event? Having to trash a lot of your components at the end of the race, if not half way through. I replaced both shifter cables, cluster, chain and some pivot bearings and I was lucky to only do that. The first stage is just a bog for most of it, every year it seems.
The good things? Everything else. The riding is fantastic, the catering for lunches is full on, the organisation is great and the experience of riding on awesome tracks with so many others and having such fun is just unbeatable. Most people sit around and have a beer at the end of the day's stage, then back for more after they've cleaned up and found their bed for the night.
The highlights for me was the descent into Rosevile or whatever it is, the Monezuma Falls stage along the tramline and the beach stage back from Hells Gate.
Do it at least once, if just for the awesome riding.

Rat,
Seeing as you are listed as from Launceston the weather, trail conditions will probably come as less of a shock to you than the interstate riders.
The organisation is brilliant, seriously a swiss watch would probably run rougher.
The professionalism flows from the top down, the volunteers were all mega stars last year and it's hard not to catch the good vib. The weather last year was brilliant.
Sure the first stage was a bit muddy but from what I've heard some years ALL stages are like that.
Do it, it's brilliant, the only arguements people would have for not doing it is the possibility for shitty Tasmanian weather, but seeing as you live there anyway....
Here are my top tips:
1: Have support with you, Tenting by yourself is taxing.
2: Have at least 2 sets of Nixs, wet nixs at the start of the day suck.
3: Complete cable housings, from shifter to rear derailer. I did that and it never missed a beat.
4: Take a very extensive cleaning kit for your bike. You'll be doing it every night.
Thanks for the tips dudes, It's looking like I will see you there :D
