dude, if you have your own dh bike, TAKE IT WITH YOU. The only bike you'll be able to hire will be some shitty malvern star you see the tourists ridin. If you are flyin up, qantas wont charge you if you only have one other check in luggage. If you got more than that, look for a check in counter with a chick, and be nice to her. It will make a hell of a difference.
DH in cairns is better than anywhere else in the country. A mate and I were up there in april for nothin else other than to ride. Shitty time of year to go, (rainin everyday and no one wanted to ride), but sept will be sweet.
When you get there, dont worry bout accom, just go straight to edge cycles, and get yourself out there. Seriously, this place rocks, the shortest trail we rode was bout 5mins and fast all the way. The access to the trails couldnt be better, and as long as you got a shuttle, you be ridin all day.
The worlds track and the nationals track are located at the club site at smithfield. There isnt shuttles to the top unless a race is on, so check out race dates. Highly recommended trails are kuranda, waddle bla, robsons and the worlds. Contact edge cycles as soon as you can and you should be able to hook up with some dudes for some sweet ridin. Should be able to find em in the yellow pages.
have fun ya lucky bastard....

Can you still ride the worlds track?
Is it decent, cos i heard it was closed due to world heritage or somethin.
Kuranda is sweet too.

I'm in Cairns....The 96 worlds track doesnt exist anymore...It's just the nationals track...but its hell overgrown and washed out. Too much effort to push up as well.
Kuranda is awesome, pretty washed out at the moment, but it makes the track better.
Waddle Bla is just insane haha, but fucking fun.
Also check out Boi Boi, that track is hell steep, nice and fast.
Robsons is awesome, rode it with Mick and Tracey Hannah...

Didnt sum guy eat shit bad from jumping the kuranda train? or was that just a rumour, or is there actually an area where u can clear it?

Kovarik and Ronning (and i think Bramham) jump it on Mudcows 3. Get it and watch it if you can find it. Kovarik overshoots one, bounces over the makeshift bunting and breaks his collarbone. Very gutsy.

New Boi Boi....the old boi boi ends up on some suburb development...Crystals is always overgrown...crystals is more like a hard cross country track...nothing hard, though there is a couple of cool tight corners that drop a little...
