I would suggest hiding under a convenient coffee table until the event is over.

Well besides the obvious of making sure you've got a working bike, and being fit...

1. Support crew. Very important for soooo many reasons
2. Lights, lights, and more lights. You can never have enough backups when racing solo
3. I'd recommend getting a bike-fit by someone who has lots of experience. You'd be surprised at how much you can get out of a few mm in saddle height, angle, stretch, etc etc
4. Salts and fluids. Keep these topped up
5. Food. Eat, even if you're not hungry at the time. Carry some small snacks that are quick and easy to chew/digest
6. Ride at your own pace. It's a 24hr race remember. There's a good chance you'll catch that goon that overtook you in the 1st few hours of the race. 10-15km is still a bloody good average speed. Sounds slow but think about how kms you'll do
7. Bring spare riding kits. It's refreshingly... refreshing having a change of nix, jersey, socks, etc etc
8. Have fun. If you're not having fun, you'll crack in the early hours of the morning. 2-3am is a very popular quiting time, I myself have been guilty of

Hope this helps

ive only competed in a couple of 12 hours but i wanna try a 24. as was stated eat eat eat and drink drink drink its soooo important. doent take it on as a sprint race coz after 6 or 7 hours you will wish you had just stayed in bed. doent take any notice of what anyone else is doing even if they are solo aswell. just imagine you are out for a ride with your mum well maybe not your mum but you get the idea. ride asmuch as you can for long periods and while riding try to eat the foods you plan on using during the race this is most important so bananas cold pizza jelly beans snakes museli bars geez i ate 1.5kg of bananas a big pack of snakes and a box of museli bars during 1 12hour i wish i had more variety but you lern fram your mistakes good luck with it mate

thanks i had not thought about takeing that much food . but i suppose its better to take it home rather than go hungry.
any body experimented with different gel things, ive used GU in the past and it has been great as long as you eat real food every couple of hours.
