Well i'm gearing up to build a new thrash bike, and the wheelset uses these hub. After reading reviews and hearing from lots of Laserdisc DH hub owners i'm very very skeptical about the reliability of the freehub. Should i ride the wheelset into the ground and then buy one of the new DT ones (440 hubs with 6.1 rims) or should i buy the DT's now, and keep the WTB's as spares.

Anyone had any experience of the Laserdisc Lite hubs? Or am i just delaying catastrophe?

when ever I have owned and use anything WTB be it wheels (Dual Duty) which looked good but were heavy and I found to be not that strong I've had stronger XC wheels, WTB tyres (Yuck) or headset which I didn't think was anything to write home about. I would say nay but that is just me I have been burnt a few times

A friend who lives 5min from me killed his brand WTB laserdisc hub's freehub in a couple of months. The bearings were fine, as was the rest of the hub, but obviously the freehub mechanism is a piece of shit.
Highly not reccomended. :)

The DT hubs are gorgeous, but that's pretty extreme (do you buy your bike parts or your parents, wow...)

i'm sure there's a happy medium for a hub you won't destroy and won't cost $500+... but if you can afford DT's for a "thrasher" bike, then sure go for it. I love mine.
