View Full Version : 4 Minute Kiwi DH Clip
Howdy - I thought you guys might be interested in seeing some racing from across the ditch. This is a 4 minute clip featuring footage from a round of the DH Nationals held at Long Gully, Wellington, New Zealand.

The most "spectator friendly" section is called the "Pig Chute" where riders come down a steep and bumpy chute, hit a kicker and boost over a ridge into a blind landing on a berm. This is what happens when things don't go to plan.

For RedPill's questions, the track starts at about 400m above sea. the chute itself must be a good 8m or more down (Tama might be able to confirm this if he checks this thread again). the track is quite short with the pros doing it in just over 2 min. the area where it is has a few decent trails that are worth exploring if you're ever in NZ.
to get the rumour mill going, legend has it that when Steve Romaniuk was over filming the Drop In series a couple of months ago, he took one look at the "Pig Chute" and refused to go down. another one of the crew ripped his leg open after bailing on pulling a tabletop following the step up.

However, we went back when it was fine (again and again and again as they enjoyed it so much) and Steve sprained his hand on entry to the chute and Randy needed 15 stitches in his abdomen after overshooting the step-up.
All of which will be on Drop In on Fuel TV and C4 around the end of this year.

HOLY SHIT now thats a pretty damn sweet DH track. That section with the chute looks very nasty indeed, but the speed some of those riders came down at totally blew me away. Awesome footage thanks heaps for posting that up well worth the download for the rest of you.
woah, either that video was recorded a faster rate or those kiwis are truely insane, which i think is true.
i haven't seen anything that fast
