View Full Version : Swapping DH forks

Ok i recently purchased an 03 model Giant DH comp and it has Boxxer teams on it (03 obviously) which i think have about 7 inches travel. I am picking up the bike next week and to be honest the first thing i noticed before testing it was how anorexic the forks look! Since i am used to Marrzocchi forks which are well and truly beefier, however thy performed flawlessly on the test runs at Mt Riv. So now i have an oppertunity to do a straight swap for a brand new set of 04 Marzocchi JrT's with 7 1/2 inches of travel. What i want to know is would this be a bad move? I really like the JrT's cause they look solid (and they are ALL black) and the extra travel couldnt hurt could it?! But is this downgrading? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.
Manik!

Boxxer Teams will almost definitely be a better "race" fork than JnrT's... If you can get super T's on the other hand, that IMO will be a superior fork, albeit heavier. Any marzocchi fork with HSCV damping is the way to go if your going to swap.
P.S. Whatever you do, dont get Fox40's - I herd they brake!!

I would KILL for Fox 40s! 888s would be my choice if i had enough dough :( , but this oppertunity just arose so i was wondering.

Boxxer teams have superior valving to Jnr T's. This will more than make up for the 1/2 inch of travel less than the Junior's. If you are going to swap to a marzocchi make sure you swap to a model with HSCV valving. i.e. Super T's, 888R 04 or 888RC 05, Shiver's and top model monstors. I personally believe 888's are hard to beat....Super t's will give you a similar head angle although 888's with flat crown's will also do the job (just cost more)

How would the Foxes not outlast the 888s? I'm very curious.

Am i missing something? To me it sounds as though he would love some 40's, but could really only afford 888's.

I can't read.
Anyway, stick with your boxxers. They work much better than the comparative Marzocchi, and are lighter too.

Yeah the Boxxers felt real nice, i was just concerned as they dont really have a reputation for strength and i am a bit heavy handed on all my gear. But looks like they r staying till they either break or i can afford 888's!
