Hey there everyone,

Just a heads up for the next Ourimbah club race we are going to do somthing a little different and we hope everyone has a good time. For CCOMTB club members there is double points up for grabs, what we are going to do that's different is race the normal track from the fire tower first run, then second run from the half way start down the switch back track.

We rode it yesterday and it was awesome fun and very doable. Then the two timed runs will be added together for an accumalated time. So you should ride hard but don't go all out as you want to be able to do your second ride because you may win the first race but could flat or crash on the second run and lose.

If you can get out and practice it that would be good as there are some north shore style ramps in it they are not big or anything just know they are there and there is B-lines around them. The track will be bunted out in the near future so it should be easy to follow. PLEASE NOTE it goes across the XC track so be AWARE of other riders when you are practicing, they won't be there on race day.

Hope to see you there and remeber it is all about fun and is not a matter of life and death. Also the time keeper dosen't mind letting you know what time you did but if another rider is coming across the line he/she will not answer you so please do not get upset with them.

Thanks Wayne Froggatt

As to your first question that is the normal track when you start at the fire tower on the roll in.

As to your second question. WHAT?

If I can try and decipheir what you are asking, as you are about to enter the undulating part of the normal track don't enter it and keep going straight along the fire road (simple terms stay right) till you get to a clump of rocks now that is the halfway track start.
Go straight down the fire road merging/vering to the right you will see a cut track follow that stick to the left by that I mean follow tracks going towards left (there will be one track that goes right don't follow that) its pretty simple after that going into a bunch of switchbacks hence why it is called the switchback track.

Hope this helps you out a bit better

Non members don't get points do they, so say the highest placed member is in 8th, then they would receive first place points, or do they get 8th place points?

If you came 8th and are the first CCOMTB club member you will get 1st place points in your catagory, as non members get no points regardless of were they come.

Plain an simple yes. From that day on you will be a club member and you will be allocated points, which will go to a total for the year entitaling you to a piece of the booty if you so happen to make top three of your class/age group

i was hoping to get up there on the weekend and give the track a run is it possible to catch pulic transport up there. ie a train.
Everytime i go to glenrock the train stops at ourimbah and i am heaps tempted to get off and try and find them.
Anyone know?

ourimbah station is actually no where near the track, it's closer to tuggerah station, but i wouldnt want to ride a dh bike to the track, it would still be at least 10ks away

been there done that from both ourimbah and tuggerah. i was so stupid to think that ourimbah would be closer, i should of checked the map first.

from tuggerah aint so bad,( i rode there on a race day and still managed to come first), but you would be better of scabing a lift.

awesome work wayne. That track was so good in the wet when it cut back across the hill to the left after the fire road crossing.

does it still have that little north shore section at the bottom? and will xc be on in the morning before?

I gather you know the general area and where that track turns off (or go straight in this case) the normal state race. It starts and follows the ridge line with a tight tree section then into a sweeper section that is mostly off camber but super fun, it then goes into a tighter sections on the left side of the ridge (normal track side) the old track then turned sharp left adn cut back across to where the the big right sandy fire road corner is on the state track. The traverese across the hill is fairly off camber and had a number of big rocks and twists in it, and i think runs by and across where the current xc track runs.

hope thats not too confusing

The XC will be on in the morning but they are doing somthing a little different as well. They will be doing a time trial race on a much shorter track approx 8-10mins. So they shouldn't be getting to close to that track on race day. You are more than welcomed to enter that as well it should be a lot of fun and shouldn't wear the rider out as much as a full XC race.
If you are practicing up there at anytime please just note that the switchback track does go cross part of the XC track and there could be XC riders on the track so please stop for them if they are there as we don't want accidents all over the place.
On a lighter note I do plan on going up there on Sunday afternoon between 1 & 2pm so if you are not to sure of the track I will be there you are more than welcomed to follow me down.

Hmmm...... The Westfield is still a fair way away and you would either need to ride into Wyong anyway or head back towards the freeway and go over the bridge to get the back way to ourihmba. I think that Wyong is closer myself, and also, the country express trains stop at Wyong every 30mins, but at tuggerah every hour so less stuffing around getting to Wyong. Trust me, im the public transport master :p

MATTY R
18-06-2005, 07:10 PM
the club trailer is usually doing shuttles on the day, but its best to have a driver as a back up, but if you get stuck someone will give you a lift up, just ask around

ps. hows the bike going?

Hey ppl the guy that usually drives up to ourimbah has gone to the snow this WE which has left me and my brothers sorta stranded.would anyone with 3 spare seats feel like some company. We will give you $40 for fuel. Also if you have a tow bar we can provide a trailer that can comfortably carry 5 bikes.

OK, due to the amount of phone calls and E-mails I have recieve since putting this up it seems there is going to be a few riders turn up for this race so to be able to have this meet finish before dark we are going to now start this race at 12pm. That is 12 pm so turn up early for practice maybe even come on Saturday for practice if you can if you turn up latter sorry we won't be able to let you race because otherwise you will be riding in the dark.
Sorry for any inconvience. Still it will allow everyone to go home at a reasonable time in the afternoon.
See you There :)

Hi all,

I'm interested in entering this race but haven't ever been to a DH race before. Can someone pls give me the heads up on what is required for entry?

I assume FFace helmet, armour (+bike) and entry fee is required but do you need to be a member of any club to enter a race?

Thanks,

Dave.

You don't need to be a club member as you can buy a day licence. The day licence is not all that expensive entry fee is about $8. if you are under 18 you will need a parent or gardian to sign for you.
Buying a MTBA licence allows you to race at all races without filling out day licence's every time.
All that stuff you mention is good a full face helmet is compulsory a bike will help you out in your plight to ride, body armour is a personal choice but highly recomended

Thanks to everyone that came up today it was a good turn out even with the rain turning people away we still ahd 56 riders in all.
The second track was fun, well I thought it was anyway and takes away from the same ole'.
It wasn't much fun sitting there timing getting eaten by leechs and mosquito, the only downside to the day.
My first race back since breaking my collarbone (again, twice this year) I pulled a 3.55 and a 2.05 pretty stoked about that considering it has been 2 months since last race.
Anyway everyone seemed to have a good time. I don't think we will accumalate times again but we will deffintly race that track again for somthing different but we will do some work on it and try and make it just a little longer.
Thanks to all the new riders who turned up hope to see you out there again for some more racing. I will get the times up tomorrow for every one to have a look at.
