it's not like you have to study for it...
I did it in 99 and I have to say, that for all the hyping up my school did about how hard and important the test was, it turned out to be a piece of piss hardly worthy of the time they'd spent on it.
Don't stress dudes, you'll shit it in :)

I'm with Ryan on this one, we had a question asking us to colour in a bunch of squares to make up a new Australian flag. Then we had to explain our new flag design ? WTF it's not a colouring in competition

Yep, I did QCS last year and It realy doesn't mean much at all, The most it can do is either bump you up or leave you down on your OP.. And when you get out and start looking for a job you will find that employers pritty much dont' care about your op and what you did at school, they look for experience.. Wish someone had told me that while I was at school :(
Just relax and have fun,

YAY QCS - i don't understand why everyone is stressing, its an exam we can't study for so CHILL OUT...
although its not that stressing, its still a pain in the arse - 4 hours (i think) of just sitting and doing GAY questions. i think we'd all rather be doing something productive (like riding out bikes or tuneing chickies.)
What are you grade 12ers doing next year?????

peachy you are doing the QCS and think it is only 4 hours? Maybe it has changed but its a bit more than 4 my friend... as everyone said tho, just treat it as another day - don't stress and you'll be fine. Contrary to what everyone said tho I think it is relatively important IF you are going to uni and want to go straight into your preferred course...on the other hand even if you get a 25 on your QCS there are ways and means to get into your preferred course eventually.
Your future, at high school age, is not as urgent as what all your parents and teachers make it out to be! Most of you would only be 17/18...don't rush into things and especially don't stress over marks!
My advice is take a year or so off between yr 12 and uni (if you planning on uni), contrary to what everyone says you won't forget to learn and you won't be disadvantaged necessarily mark wise. I'm gunn stop ranting but i wish someone told me this before uni! (uni is SO much fun tho!)
I agree with the Scotty Beefs about the taking a break Idea. Wish I had of now. Hindsights a biatch.
With re: QCS, A question in our year (99) was to design some sort of monster creature thing, and to then colour it in...excuse me but what the hell?
QCS was damn easy and definetely not worth all those hours on practise questions.

yer we had to do the stupid monster one for practice it was gay. oh yeah its like 8 hours or something stupid. 2 days of 2, 2 hour tests i think.....is taking a year of really worth it? i was going to just go straight in get my degree over and done with!!! but i was going to go into tourism and marketing? anyone done it on farkin.net???? or anyone know anyone?? some info would be muchly appreciated. stressing ahahahaaha it was never implied.

bazza,
yeah i think taking a year off is worth it...I was the same in terms of getting in and getting it over and done with but really whats the rush? A 4 year degree and you'll be out by the time your 21/22 - thats young.
A year off just would have given me a break from continuous study...a bit of time to really think about what i wanted to do but really just a break. Uni is something that u can just get in and get over and done with but it is much better off if you get there, enjoy what you do and be the best at it - this would be much easier if refreshed after a year off i reckon!

OP? Like Bundy OP???? You'd think the states could get together and have a national marking system.....
Anyways, taking a year off, well I think that depends on the individual. I've sort of taken a year off (I kinda messed up my uni application.....) so I'm going into my degree next year. My problem is though that I've never really been able to get my head around the concept of "study", so after having a year off I'm a bit worried about how long it's going to take me to get back into the swing of things. But that's just me.

well today was quite gay what did yous write about for the stupid writting task? and how did yous find the mulitple choice. this is my relaxation for tommorow btw.
peachy

hahaha omfg core skills was a piece of cake... although its probably because i had 2 berocas and a can of redbull before each exam.
for the writting task i did that 2 faces "circumstances alter faces." there is a story behind the picture a great tragedy of some sort.. so i wrote a story tragic story. at the end i summarised everything that happened and the emotions behind each happening. i said some funky shit about how emotion is expressed through the face and people who go through major tragedy or trauma for a long duration end up keeping that emotion embedded in their face...
multi-choice was a piece of pie... the only questions that got me scratching me arse was the one on the steps, how they had different symbols for movements whether it be horizontal, left or right... i eventually got it, but thats the only part that confused me
yeh i said 4 hours, i meant each day sorry :(

sorry to be dumb, hut hey we all ask q's. but....what is QCS?
peachy
02-09-2003, 10:55 PM
QCS - queensland core skills. its a 4 exams that are compulsory for students who are looking for an OP. total of about 8 hours of exams in 2 days, has a big impact (so i've heard) on the outcome of ones OP (overall position)
its exams that we can't study for, its kind of like a summary of everything we've learnt throughout school...
people usually find these exams the most stressful ones u'll have in school. but it ain't true

oh ok, is that for queensladers only? or the MCS (melbourne core skills)?

It actually doesn't have that big of an impact on your OP.
And yes, I am going to uni, but I'm going to TAFE to get my OP. Two reasons...it's a lot easier at TAFE...and I learnt some invaluable skills at the two different work experiences I did (TC's Bike Barr and Australia Zoo).
