The new downhill number plates will be issued at Wollongong's, Nowra race on the week end, with the sheet below.

2005 Downhill Numbers

A picture of the plate is here, if I could download it.

This is your number plate for state downhill competition in 2005 except series winner has been removed. It will cost you $5. The number has been allocated by your position in this years series. You will display the number when competing in the rest of the series and championship, after the series the number remains yours. This is an experiment to see the feasibility of issuing numbers. The numbers are based on national number system with modifications for ladies, masters 1 & 2 and hardtail.

The bad bits, you must ride with your number at state races, if you forget your number you will have to be reissued with a new one at the cost of $10, each time you forget another $10. Non-state plates will not be eligible to be displayed even though they may display your number. Unless you present in a bullet helmet and full Lycra skin suit you may not cut down your number for greater wind resistance. Seeing the numbers have been purchased at a very reasonable cost from the sponsor you may not deface, cover, etc the sponsor. The sponsor is not a rival bike shop, bike manufacturer etc, you will need a new number if this occurs $10.

The good bits, its yours, you can leave it on your bike, WSMTB and most other clubs will let you race club with it on. If this works then next year the same will occur with the numbers allocated on where you finished this year. The organisers do not have to worry about issuing and retrieving, transporting many numbers each race.

This should go a long way to solving the issues with the current amount of missing numbers in the state plates.

It will be interesting to see what people think about paying for the plates. At least now there will be incentive not to lose the thing.

i think it's a great i idea. i always want to keep the plate but getting $10 back is always a good thing for maccas on the way home.and seeing as you only pays once thats cool in my books.

Great idea Steve.

The potential is then there for riders to rock up at rego and say "My number is..." and every thing is all ready in the computer. No need to fill out endless forms...

I like the whole concept
