I reckon by the time people from east NSW & QLD get to all the events it would cost over $5000 ! Good to see the series is truly National though. The 4 x is fairly spread out.

bit of i hijack, but i am pretty dissapointed about the DH scedule that they have made (exception TAS) no queensland races while having two WA races as absolute B.S. IMO
the 4X is another story altogther though, excellent...
Hey but didnt the Queensland track get closed down?? thats what i heard? Anyway the mtx sounds good in homebush! think i will be there!(watching)

Yeah? What about the two rounds that queensland got last year but WA got none?
So thredbo has a round as well as the championships? Can anyone actually afford to go there twice?

Should have stayed at Eildon, only time it was used over the last 3 years.

Try joining a Ski racing club, or even just staying in one without a membership. $15 a night for members, bring my own food, has cooking facilities... I lived down thredbo for a week on $150, this isnt including chairlift tickets (I was doing a instructor course which included lift tickets)
Chairlift tickets arent all that expensive when you consider it was $88 or something for Kooralbyn which was faster to push up then wait for the 4wd's.

Yeah but in case you're not aware, you have to pay for petrol, race entry, and extremely overpriced food as well as accomodation. It's pretty easy to burn $500 for a race weekend there, all up, and a lot of people won't be able to do that one twice. Yeah you could say "well that would be the same if they held it elsewhere anyway", but Thredbo is more expensive than anywhere else regardless of how good (or bad) it is.
Nice avatar btw :)

like I said, if your smart about it you can live cheaply.
its quite the avatar, I got bored of not having one and im too lazy to re-size images.
here is what Tony Scott sent out about the National series
Hi all,
Well the national season is finally confirmed. I apologize for the
lateness of the announcement but we were waiting for Cairns to commit
but after having significant issues with access to their Smithfield
site have had to decline the offer.
Instead we have secured the use of the new Glenorchy MTB park in
Tasmania, which readers of farkin.net will know has one of the biggest
MTN X courses in Australia due in no small way to Glen Jacobs.
Please add the calendar to your websites and feel free to send onto
people who might wish to know about this.
Rod, could you please let me know the details for the Bike Trials.
Some aspects:
# 4 rounds in XC and DH - all to count. 6 rounds in MTN X.
# All venues are high profile sites which promise the delivery of
awesome MTB competition.
# First MTN X competition to be held in conjunction with the 2005
Australian Bike Show at a permanent MTN X track at Olympic Park in the
middle of Sydney. Can you say "Bring MTB to the people?"
# More events having both XC and DH - better for the spectators and
public - more show for the doe!
# XC1 and DH1 held in Tasmania for the first time since 2000. Expect
the Tasmanians to put on a huge show!
# XC2 and DH2 held in WA, first time since 1999!
# XC3 will be the first selection race for Australian Elite riders at
the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and incorporate the 2006 University Games.
The 2006 Commonwealth Games XC course will be used
# Finals at Mt. Buller, XC will once again be a long loop format
(albeit with some minor changes to remove some of the more technically
challenging parts of the course)
# National Championships split to accommodate XC Commonwealth Games
selection needs and to fit in with other events already scheduled in
Thredbo
# National Champs are NOT part of the Series
For further info contact me directly.
Kind Regards,
tony

i spent just on $500 getting to eildon.
with a plane ticket at $120. race entry at $136 (day licence) and then there was about $250 spent on food, over weight luggage, skybus ticket from airport to city.. it all adds up...
i think ill just go to eildon for the champs. always a bit of fun that event... at least the course will be more reliable than eildon...

The missing 4x round is at tassie, at the same time as the dh. Looks like itll be a good circus this year. Shame about some of the timing for uni and work commitments, but ill be getting to two or 3 rounds hopefully.

Should have stayed at Eildon, only time it was used over the last 3 years.
in the last 3 years it's been used 2 dh and 3 for 4x and a couple of xc races other than the nats get your details right and stop bitching if your not doing anything ;)
on other notes i think it's a bit poor that there is two races at thredbow other than that it looks great i should be going to tassie thredbow (once) and buller of course i cant wait!

I reckon you can do it on about $2000. Thredbo (for the state round in April) cost us $300 per person, which isn't to bad. That included food, accomodation, beer and entry.
Great to see so much 4x, i'll be at at least 4 of the rounds- so happy i've built up a bike that suits. Oh yeah, and who's keen on a Tassie Roadtrip?

Yer maybe, was a shame to see the track not being used.

with the track being such soft dirt (needs big recover time and lots of work for every race) and the coucile being an bitch to work with eildon isnt an easy place to hold a race.

look at your local clubs websites. wasn't there a post recently on that anyway (Vic races)?
and as for the 'run your own damn race' thing, what do you need to hear? talk to your local club, join, and start helping! its so easy! :D i'm 14 (well, only till sunday) and i'm the Assistant DH coordinator for the largest mtb club in Australia (CORC)!
and by the way, isn't this thread meant to be about the cost of doing a nationals series?
my suggestion is to look at the AMB issue that had the airfares in it (look, something useful from AMB  ), get prices for the trip to Tassie, and start guesstimating!
it's not that hard to save money on these sort of trips, accom. can be done for less than 50 bucks a night, $10 at buller!
good luck mate,
Sam

Try $20 at buller... or have I missed something/somewhere rediculously cheap?

not sure if i read it right, there is no 4x in tasmania?
it looks like the best thing to happen to 4x in australia, and its not getting used, but we are going there to race?
did i read this wrong?

Im pretty sure they are holding a round there. according to the message from Tony Scott. Says that they are holding it at the mtb park in Tassie instead of using smithfield again.

do car boats go from Melbourne across to Tassie or do you have to fly ? (I know its a stupid question but I got no idea)

oh, maybe it is 20. i am talking about the rooms that are for ski instructors etc. in the winter that are below Vicmtb Pro Shop, and are rented out by club Spurs. the rooms hold 4 each, and are basic as, but there is a shared tv/lounge room and possibly kitchen, if not the meals at Spurs are awsome!
actually, now that u say it, i think it is 20, but that includes a meal at spurs (breaky or dinner, probably breaky), so it's still an incredibly good deal!

You can catch the "spirit of tasmania' with your car on - i think it costs about $150 plus a bit for your car... Dont quote me on the price, but its around that figure...
Cheers
